There's KK in Australia, and they are not very good. Dry, cold, overly heavy... I prefer hot cinnamon donuts from the local coffee shops here.

It's illegal to sell or distribute photos of an 18yo girl naked. Despite consensual sex and things are legal at much lower age.

I think the key here is "american only production". There were hands in both of those (Iwojima and Gaisha) by Japanese productions.

I really hate hangovers

If you drink often enough, you won't get hangovers. These embarrassing moments are nothing compared to what I witness in Australia...

A beer, a few cans of Chu-hai and 650ml of sake... about a decent night where I'd still be going to work the next day. Not that it's anything to be proud of, but I've had a LOT bigger night, and I got out of it without bashing my girlfriend too.

Sustainability is the key. I don't mind Japan whaling as long as it's sustainable and humane. And it doesn't stop at whales.

I usually drink Whiskey (on the rocks usually), and a lot of Japanese men still do. But I think it's hard to find a whiskey drinker who drinks pre-mix... considering a half decent bottle of single malt or even a bad to ok Scotch blend (Johnny red/black or Chivas) is only about 1100yens to 2000yen...

Posted in: Mother turns herself in, saying she killed her 8-yr-old son See in context

Over the past 30 years, parents in Japan have turned the upbringing of their kids increasingly over to to third parties.

I Don't know what you are pretending to know, but the issue with discipline and disconnection between older and younger generation is not only the thing of Japanese society. With the introduction of internet and kids being over exposed to information, disconnection between parents and children are happening everywhere.

World is turning into a bad place. EVERYWHERE. I would not be upset if the world as we know it ended in year 2012.

Posted in: X Japan to make U.S. debut at Lollapalooza in August See in context

Plenty of bands around making come back from the 90s or earlier now a days... I've recently seen Slayer (several years break until 2006 album), Megadeth (although they have been releasing "stuff", they have been out of form for a long time), Judas Priest (since painkiller-1990, they have been on and off), Status Quo (Steadily active, but old), deep purple (5years since their last album), fleetwood mac (7 years since their last album), Sonic Youth (steadily active but an old band) Pixies (19years since their last album!!).

Nothing wrong with 14years since last album... considering their lead guitarist died 16years ago. It will never be the same without Hide, but hey... Yoshiki is a great musician, and acclaimed around the world in the scene in the know. How about the headliner for the festival? SOUND GARDEN. ALSO 14YEARS SINCE THEIR LAST ALBUM.

define "outside of Japan" for me. You guys might think there's no other countries out there but your home state and Japan, but there are over 200 countries out there, and X japan has played in at least 10 of them (that I know of)... Has massive following in many Asian countries and been touring around Asia quite extensively as well as their German tour (which I have no idea how they went, but it was before Hide topped himself)

Posted in: Fan automatically adjusts air volume See in context

air volume is actually right in this instance... When you are talking about A/C condenser and other mechanical contraptions with a fan on them, the amount of air moved by the fan is measured in CFM (cubic foot per minute) or cubic meters a second etc, and these figures are referred to as "air volume". No it does not increase the amount of air in the atmosphere.

40 officers called out to a domestic disturbance ended in a stabbing... "armed and dangerous" call is fair enough in my opinion. Much better than tazers and what-not way too frequently used without a provocation in the western world.

rokudenashi- many of those so-called "talents" do have education. Many of them are quite smart. Usually the ones still in the game in their 30s on. Just watch some of the quiz shows and things. They do make some very constructive and educated comments. Yes, I agree many of the young female "talents" may only be there because they are cute. But it's still better than the "Reality TV" shows like they have in US, Australia and Europe.

herefornow- It's TV. It's a mindless entertainment. If you want some cultured entertainment, go to the theatre and watch some Kabuki, Manzai, Takarazuka, String Orchestra or something. There's plenty of great things in Japan that is above average in the world standard. Why do you choose to sit and watch TV, and also complain about it? May be lacking the culture and education yourself to understand or appreciate that sort of "Cultured" entertainment? or Life for that matter?

Posted in: Man questioned after wife's body found in car trunk in Chiba See in context

police are currently questioning the man

The man is in police custody. Why the need to "arrest him" formally if he's being cooperative? I think there are very little information in this article, and so much speculation in the stuff that is "lost in translation". "Detained for questioning" is different to "arresting" is it not? "Arresting" only really happens under statutory warrant is acquired. This much is the same as western system. I think you guys need to learn the system a bit more. Even in western society, "arresting a suspect" only happens under severe circumstancial evidence. The suspect is more often "taken in for questioning", and "arrest" will happen if they are not cooperative for reasons such as "obstructing the course of justice" and other excuses the cops come up with.

Koban

"Koban" is a patrol office... a small scale thing you see on the street corner. "Keimusho" or "kaisatsu sho" is the larger scale things that would have housed an "investigation office". Just in case you needed a lesson in Japanese.

"talent" is a japanese industry term for a "celebrity" or anyone who is a subject in a TV or photo shoot. basically. I'm still not sure on what the thing sticking out of her side is...

Posted in: Man questioned after wife's body found in car trunk in Chiba See in context

I read this as: The husband has obviously been taken in as a "person of interest". He has admitted to it, but all the facts probably aren't marrying up... Which is often the case with these weird murder cases. The police are still questioning, but they are leaning more towards he is the killer, and is confirming the final points before officially arresting him... What's not to get? pretty logical to me.

Fireworks is based on gunpowder... or mixture of sulfur and potassium nitrate, and is very stable... High Explosives such as DNT, TNT or RX is a lot more volatile compound usually of nitrotoluene family... Totally different chemical composition. Oh, and if you've been handling high-ex, it evaporates and sticks to your skin and clothing, so you will get detected even if you were very tall and held it above your head.

On the world stage, Japanese soccer is about as relevant as a high school car wash in Idaho.

actually, they are in the top 40 of the world currently by FIFA ranking. Which would make them about as relevant as a boy scouts car wash in Sydney.... Might not get the result you want, but it makes you feel warm and fuzzy supporting the underdogs.

Posted in: Child abuse suspected after bruised 3-year-old girl dies See in context

Fishy, I agree with you. All child abuse is bad, and having just one is bad enough. I wish we could live in a world where there were no child abuse, and I can not even begin to imagine the pain it causes these children. All I am saying is, that some people misconstrue and bag Japan and its culture for all the wrong reasons, without thinking about what happens at home, which they are blind to... and often not understanding the culture clearly.

Posted in: Child abuse suspected after bruised 3-year-old girl dies See in context

You know what really angers me? The comment from foreigners living in Japan with such little understanding of the Japanese culture. I mean for example, bathing kids... it does not make a father a pedophile. My dad used to bath me when I was little (and yes, I grew up in Tokyo)... at least until I was old enough I wouldn't drown on my own. He is not a pedophile. It's just an age old tradition. Child abuse case in Japan is probably far less prominent than a lot of western countries.
