Posted in: Myanmar frees Japanese journalist as gesture to Tokyo See in context

Myanmar Junta needs to be removed, period! The Japanese government should NOT recognize them as any type of representatives of Myanmar. Japan has perhaps greater influence than the US and other western countries here, though nothing compared to other ASEAN countries.

Myanmar is a tragedy happening everyday!

Posted in: Cancer compensation claim by ex-Fukushima plant worker rejected See in context

Is this really medical fact?!

"the minimum latency period for cancer is five years, according to Presiding Judge Katsumi Takagi."

For the judge to rule on this, better it must be? Never heard of that before.

To the public, It would seem TEPCO continues to have "influence" not only on government lawmakers, but frightfully on Japanese law enforcers such as judges.

Hoping this is not the case!

Prayers and hopes go out to the man suffering from cancer and to those brave souls that did the dirty work and clean up for TEPCO.

Shame on TEPCO for not repaying those that helped them and Japan for a truly tragic disaster!

Mark Adams should be fired!!!

“We listen but won’t be guided by public opinion,” IOC spokesman Mark Adams said, adding “everything is telling us ... that the games can go ahead and will go ahead.”

His quoted statement shows total arrogance, stupidity and insensitive behavior! He's showing his inexperience in his job and damaging the reputation of the IOC. Just can't believe that stupid statement! And since when did he become a health expert to make that decision that it's safe?

Mark Adams should be fired and the IOC should respond taking back this stupid statement immediately. Though we all know they will not because they also have that arrogance in their culture.

Posted in: Experts warn COVID-19 rebound could exceed 'third wave' in Tokyo See in context

Why are these experts only now coming out? Where they not consulted by PM Suga?

It would seem the government had these advisories but decided to still move forward with lifting the emergency state for Tokyo.

Understand the balance required between preventing spread and economy, but it's most important to create a clear communication and message from leaders.

Saying we are safer now and that it's ok to lift the state of emergency, then telling people immediately to be careful and refrain from going out, and even telling restaurants and businesses to continue following the rules of the State of Emergency, even if it was lifted is totally confusing.

Makes one think that the government lifted the status only to stop economical support payments to businesses which came along with the state of emergency. Don't want to think this, but this is the result of the actions.

Keep safe everyone.

For yourself and also for others by respecting their safety as well as your own.

Celebrities fearing Coronavirus?! Don't buy it! No way! Masks are rarely seen on TV shows with social distancing being redefined by Japan standards.

Very sad! Everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon and condemning the Olympics and Mori. They are followers without thought and myopic, forgetting the negative longer term impact to Japan.

Posted in: Restaurant chain operator sues Tokyo gov't over COVID opening hour restrictions See in context

From the report, it's difficult to understand what grounds Global Dinning, Inc. is basing their filing on. Is it simply to say it's unjust for the government to put on this type of restrictions? The laws were clearly passed for the government to do so. If Global is claiming discrimination and targeting "taking aim", they need proof to support this.

"The plaintiff's lawyer Rintaro Kuramochi said imposing blanket restrictions without offering evidence that restaurants are a source of infections violates the freedom of business guaranteed under the Constitution."

There is significant data globally showing how confined indoor spaces where masks are not worn (inherently where people are eating and drinking) contribute to COVID-19 spread. Is "freedom of business" specifically guaranteed under the constitution? It's a stretch.

"The order "took aim" at the company which publicly voiced its intention to disobey the request and "violated the equality under the law and freedom of expression," the plaintiff said."

Does the plaintiff have proof to support this claim that the government "took aim" at the company?

Global Dining said in a release on Jan 7, "We cannot comply with the request to shorten business hours, given the current (insufficient) subsidies and support from authorities."..."No clusters have been found in our restaurants," he added."

Everyone is hurting, but the government is making tough decisions that balance public safety vs. economic health. Understand the economic pain for Global Dining. However, they should not be so selfish to put their customers at risk and must listen to the science. Their message seems to be:

"We need money. Our customers probably won't get sick and die...we think, even if the science data says otherwise. Regardless, it's an acceptable risk for our customers to take so we can keep our businesses open. Let's sue the government so we can do just that."

Choose your battles and fight when it makes sense!

Posted in: China says it is exercising self-restraint against Japanese ships near Senkakus See in context

China has become the wild dog that needs to be put on a leash and trained. They have caused so many problems on ALL fronts.

o Coronavirus Origins and lack of cooperation, promoting secrecy to the international community

o Continue introduction of fake goods including vaccines containing water, and fake PPE medical masks

o Fighting over territories not belonging to them in the seas of Japan, Philippines, and Taiwan

o Controlling Hong Kong

o Threatening to take over Taiwan

The only thing that I can recall China doing for the world is offering vaccines to some countries. But come on, would anyone that had any other option of taking a vaccine from any other country choose a vaccine from China? I'll bet even people in China would prefer taking vaccine from other countries. Feel very sorry for the people there that are controlled and censored by the CCP. Many of them do not know any difference or blind to it.

"Another buyer, a man in his 30s, said developers should use some of the 4.2 billion from the lease extension to pay compensation.

Mitsui Fudosan Residential declined to comment on his situation."

THIS IS GREED! Mitsui should return compensation to buyers immediately! They have no honor.

China is trying to buy it's way out of their wrong doings. And doing it in such an insulting way.

Additionally, should be noted that if the vaccines being offered are Sinovac (made in China), I'd personally pass. Efficacy and safety is still in question and even news media from China is reporting an abundance of fake vaccines coming from China that contain only water. Unfortunately par for the course it seems.

Funny how Japanese culture is still respectful enough to protect the accused with tarps hiding them from cameras. Show their faces! Already all over the press. They should own up to their wrong doings.

Can't understand why this news is taking up oxygen for all of us.

Is the place haunted? Just move in and be done with it! So many bigger issues to deal with it. It's not forever. It's a price you pay for being PM. If you don't accept it, step down!

Such a silly waste of time. Can't believe this!

Wow! As a foreign American resident in Japan I’m very impressed at how Japan takes care of its citizens. Just hoping Japan will have enough money to cover the expenses. It’s a real concern.

Posted in: English ad in Japan has some seeing a command to stay infected with coronavirus this Christmas See in context

I'm an American and English speaking native with Japanese as my second language.

I personally found the ad fine as is. "Stay Positive" is a commonly used phrase and I think taking it out of context to reference positive test results is a stretch.

Besides, Japan doesn't do enough testing, so people won't know if they are positive or not, so they can only assume it means their attitudes and spirits.

Please look at the photo with Koike and team meeting. Is this proper social distancing? I'm assuming these gentlemen don't have 1 meter arm lengths

Even the committee that is in charge of leading finding solutions to this pandemic can't follow the social distance guidelines. Geez!

And to top it off, seems like only Governor Koike has a large gap in distancing on her left/right sides.

Act by example! Please!

The noise is terrible! Didn't notice it until today, 25th of October. Flights coming in every 3-5 min.

This is really terrible and needs to stop. How do I join and support the lawsuit?
