Posted in: 3 million Americans carry a handgun daily: study See in context

1787 was the year folks - bearing arms pertained to 'State Militias' not 'individuals' and State Militias do not exist anymore. So the 2nd Amendment arguments touted by these right-leaning crazies and NRA affiliated members against gun control are the ones who claim it is natural to carry/conceal weapons should be the ones we all fear.

The argument that guns keep people safe couldn't be farther from the truth.

Posted in: 3 things to consider before getting a pet in Japan See in context

Bear in mind; any pet (dog, cat, fish, etc.) is a lifelong commitment - they are not disposable. Their VET care, food, bedding, and for cats (cat litter) and for dogs (walking for exercise) is not debatable. Once you accept the responsibility you will be rewarded tenfold with their unconditional love.

@Juzetto Agree with you 100%. Xenophobic is an understatement and it's shameful that these families are kept in limbo, not for one or two years, but 15 years? It's outrageous despite all the comments here suggesting that they broke the law. If the law was broken then the government should have taken swift action to remove the 'offenders' within a reasonable period of time. My point is, this family could have been making a meaningful contribution to society all this time rather than relying on charity as well, the government wasting it's own resources time and money defending a system that is broken.

@5SpeedRacer5

Thank you for your feedback. My Aunt's house was pretty badly affected last time - wall fractures, but the scale of the quake was considerable compared to this one. . Her house is old and didn't seem very sturdy when I visited in in the '90s.

@papigiulio

Thank you so much for the update! I have my Aunt's phone number but I cannot speak Japanese, so I enlisted the help of a Japanese interpreter to call her on my behalf. As of now, no one is home so I came here to inquire. I am in the US.

Does anyone know if Sendai was badly affected? My Aunt lives there and the news said they are having 4.6 aftershocks. Thank you!

Alex80: Tons of Americans are really completely brainwashed...Many of them think it's perfectly normal to fight terrorism by war, invading every country they like...They call "collateral effect" the thousands of innocent people killed by their drones in their crazy wars. ...

Please do your homework before you rant on about 'Tons of Americans' being brainwashed. We do not accept war as normal, in fact we abhor the idea of sending air and ground troops to a foreign land because one President made a claim about WMD's. These same American war Veterans, the ones who make it home, do so with physical and psychological disabilities and must rely on inadequate services to bring them back to a 'normal' life.

Believe me, a majority of Americans want our government to keep our tax dollars on U.S. soil. We have enough problems to deal with and we do not want to babysit the world.
