A pay phone about 800 meters south of the police box was used to make the call, which police said turned out to be a hoax.

@Sam Watters : indeed, not a coincidence. Feeling better ?

Sexually assaulting / molesting 2 to 7 years old girls (or boys) is not a violent crime ????? this is an horrible trauma.... this is so sick :/

I was answering to

I don't understand how they're figuring the altitude gain. 7,942 meters? When Mt Fuji is only half of that?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Posted in: 165-km Mt Fuji ultramarathon starts See in context

it's the total gain in altitude... same on Rokko whole-mountain trail, from Suma to Takarazuka in Kansai. The highest peak of Rokko mountain is 930m but the total gain of the 56 km trail is close to 3,500m.

Japan has very nice trails ! I whish i can do the Fuji Ultra-marathon one day :)

wonder if people here don't understand how government works. I've been doing work with both the Australian and Canadian governments over the past year, and crazy meetings is a standard across both their governments as well. Japan doesn't seem any worse when it comes to planning.

true, but 1) how many times are meetings useless because the decision is already taken, but they need to hear the comitee results to be able to officially announce it (whichever way the comittee goes, it doesn't matter).

2) how many times does the person taking the decision actually understands what the comitee says ?

In a few cases, it is actually useful. In lot of cases, it's just a huge waste of time and money. (ask all the people who worked on the brexit deal the last 2 years in UK and at the European parlement, how useful they feel now).

For example, renovation of perfectly good roads each year or stop making new committees that don't serve any purpose etc.

well, I think you are a bit harsh on them about the committees... they realised the problem and made a committee in charge of assessing how to reduce committees. Just wait for their results.

Posted in: New Zealand students walk out of class, kicking off global strike on climate change See in context

Anyone who thinks that human activity is causing global climate change is totally unhinged.

Yes, there is climate change -- but there always has been. It has been going on for millions of years, long before human beings ever became the world's dominant species.

Yes, we do have environmental problems, but they are localized.

This is nothing but a scare tactic designed to sell far-leftism.

I want to deal in facts, not desperate attempts to sell an ideology.

this is a classical exemple of people who think they know better, but don't understand. No you don't want to deal in facts. facts are there, and people try to explain it, but you don't want to see it !

To explain again is useless... isn't it ? yes, climate has always changed...last time it was changing like this it took 700 000 years to change the way it is changing in a few hundread years now. No, earth is not going to end tomorrow... no people never said it will, people said we will get big problems in 50 to 200 years...if nothing is done in 10 years... now, we are at the point people are saying, we can keep the damage within managable range if something is done in the next 10 years... Of course, if you are 50 years old now, you don't need to care, you will die in a world witha bit more hurricanes, typhoons and bush fires and less coral reefs... but people who are 15, THEY CARE !!! and they are right... why can't they get a planet to live their life, the way you got one for yours ?? egoist...

@Brian

it is not terminal, it would be if it spread further. This, unfortunatly, they probably don't know for now. It now needs to be removed and hope 1) it reacts to treatment 2) it hasn't spread further 3) they manage to remove everything (once they do it). She still has a chance, but it is definitely terrible news for her and her family.

Posted in: Gay couples seek marriage rights in Valentine's lawsuit See in context

I am legally married to a Japanese national and we very much want to move to Japan to look after his elderly mother who has no other family but us, but I will need to find a sponsor because we can't apply for a spousal visa. How is that fair or just? Try walking a mile in my shoes before you make your bold - and frankly regressive - comments about whether or not I should be allowed the same rights as any other legal citizen.

So sorry for you. People don't understand that being in a same-sex couple means, yes, substantially less money, just because of the sex of your partner (tax cuts, company benefits, health care)...

but also bigger problems than money, like visa ! just being able to live together. I don't understand how some people can be so aggressive against giving you the right to benefit from a spouse visa to live with your husband/wife... people are so narrow minded ! that's crazy.

Posted in: Gay couples seek marriage rights in Valentine's lawsuit See in context

Japan isn't held back by religion, it shouldn't be a major problem here. The only thing is that lot of Japanese don't realise gay people exist... and their sons, daughter or friends are part of the community. Make it easier for gay people to come out. Once people realise LGBTQ+ are just people like you and me, the world will be a little bit better :) and yes, please, let gay people get married...or any equivalent of marriage if you don't want "to lose the meaning of marriage"...

In no way am I condoning having sex with minors but...

... it's hard to say who the victim is here. A 16-year-old whether male or female can easily pass for a low 20 something. If he truly believed her when she presented herself as an adult then who is at fault? I guess nothing short of asking for proof of age would be needed in this situation.

That's one reason why it's truly best to wait till marriage before having sex. It is a guaranteed way to avoid such messy situations.

that's really good suggestion, so true... still waiting for same-sex marriage to be legal tho... until i can finally discover sex, i hope it will be before i die... :(

Ps: the quote " " option is really random on this website...

Cheese is nice eating once in a while but I don't think Japanese people come to consume daily. It appears people here are urging because they are drinkers and they want cheese when they drink wines. For the same reason, other Asian countries are not earnest in importing cheese.

I guess we don't have the same friends... i know lot of japanese people who would eat (or are eating) cheese everyday ! :)

Actually not... people can drastically change, people can re-invent their lifes, it takes effort, but some people can lose weight, tidy their home, stop smoking or change any other habit, life-style... don't try to generalise something just because YOU are unable to change. : )

Imagine you are a japanese / gaikokujin gay couple. You can't get spouse visa... in addition to not getting tax exemption, health insurance and other benefits 'different sex' couples get. And nowhere is it linked to the ability to the man and/or woman fertility or will to have children. Maybe suing for discrimination is not the best move, but would be nice to recognise that's not fair...
