I'm Japanese but I honestly could not care less about the royal family. The idea of monarchy is such an outdated tradition that does not serve much purpose in this time and age. Yes, they are they symbol of the Japanese people and country yada yada yah... The only thing representing me is myself and I look up to people who have deserved recognitions through achievements and merit... not simply because they were born into some special family.

Just my opinions.... I'll probably get a ton of down votes.

I hope this proof of vaccination is digital and not something that involves paper and a hanko stamp...

Australia is using a digital vaccination pass which can be easily downloaded on to the phone and it has a hologram feature making it difficult for non-vaccinated people to produce a fake version.

Umm... building relationships is not a one way street. This sounds like Japan is ordering Korea to present the solution and bring it to Japan like they own Korea. Both Korea and Japan needs to work together in this. Perhaps Japan can contribute by acknowledging their war crimes and teaching the general population some history?

I think Squid game deserved all the hype it received. It wasn't a ground breaking concept by no mean as it has already been done by others like Battle Royale, Kaiji, etc.

But I think what really set it apart was the story telling. It hooked me in within the first few minutes and maintained that momentum throughout all its episode. It was consistent with its concept and themes. There were no stupid pointless fillers that so many animes have (e.g. Naruto shippuden omg). And it was realistic, relatable and touched on values that anyone in the world can understand.

I don't think everyone will enjoy it, but if you're into dark themes and emotional story telling, then 100% recommend this show. (Also please watch it with subs and not the dubs).

Anyone with money and a brain cell would find look for loop holes to minimize tax.... it's no surprise these people are doing this as unfair as it sounds.

What I'd be more interested in seeing is Abe and his finances.

Maybe have soap in public bathrooms then?

They're using their popularity and influence to spread awareness and cause to demographics that would otherwise not care about what the UN does.

They're doing something for the good yet we have commenters here who will trash talk this group.

In April 2021, in response to an interview from NHK on their racist statement, DHC claimed that most media companies in Japan including NHK who frames DHC as "racist" is ruled by people of Korean lineage, and Koreans are not minority in Japan. DHC also referred to NHK, a statutory corporation of Japan, as an enemy of the state. 

I was trying to look up if this chief executive was still holding his position at DHC and found this... turns out this entire organisation is idiotic. I'm glad they made it easy for me to decide to never buy their product.

As a woman, this is something I struggled to understand so would appreciate if someone can explain this to me - why do people like this man go through the trouble to film up people's skirt? Can't they just search for women in their undies on porn sites?

This revolving door would be spinning more like a turbine if more people showed interest in politics. I've seen too many young adults show no interest in politics and skipping out on voting, which allows ultra-conservative and corrupt dinosaurs to remain in power.

Rather than further censorship, China should focus on placing policies to ensure entertainment companies have fair and ethical contracts, and teach its general population about morality and consent (to avoid situations like Kris Wu luring young girls into his home for sexual assault).

But no.... slap more censorship like a band-aid solution rather than target the root cause.

And where's the accountability?

I live in Sydney. It was honestly so disappointing to wake up to this news.

We've been in lockdown for weeks and these protestors, who were protesting about being in lockdown, will ironically extend the lockdown.

Unfortunately these people are either uneducated and ignorant, or they're the wealthy people who just wants to whinge for not being able to have their weekend brunches or go to the club.

The State government have politicized the approach to COVID and hesitated about going into a hard lockdown earlier so now we have this chaos going on.

The government now is doing a decent job, and offering financial support for people who cannot work. I hope these protestors lose access to any of this privilege.

Japan's revisionist approach on history is a serious concern not just for Koreans and other victims of Japan's war crimes, but also for Japanese people.

People who are unaware of their own history will never be able to address past issues, and discuss about these matters at a deep level. This approach also hinders Japan's ability to develop deeper relationship with Korea and other victimised nations, which I personally think is such a huge missed opportunity for Japan.

In the words of my favourite Japanese author, Haruki Murakami:

"The issue of historical understanding carries great significance, and I believe it is important that Japan makes straightforward apologies, I think that is all Japan can do - apologise until the countries say: 'We don't necessarily get over it completely, but you have apologised enough. Alright, let's leave it now.'"

A previous comment mentioned that this university and its students support North Korea so they shouldn't receive government pay-out (i.e. yes, it's ok the discriminate them).

Whilst I don't agree with supporting North Korea, this argument is terribly flawed.

By this logic, anyone with a differing opinion / belief should be discriminated? No.

At the end of the day, whether you like Koreans or not, they still pay tax and are residents in Japan and hence should have equal opportunity to receive government support.

It's honestly so sad what's happening in Hong Kong. I really loved Hong Kong for what they were when I visited them before all this crackdown happened. I wish I could do something about it but feel quite helpless... Stay strong Hong Kong and never lose your identity!

I feel like Japan has so much potential to be environmentally friendly and carbon neutral and have the potential to lead the world in this area, especially without history of building buildings with wood rather than cement, living in side-by-side with nature, strong recycling program etc.

I see some comments suggest why Japan needs to do this when China and other countries are still using coal... I think every country has its own challenges and whilst China still uses massive amount of coal, they are leading the world in solar energy and development in sustainable farming so they are doing something about this issue. Although it would be nice if other countries can collectively work on this, being environmentally friendly isn't a competition. It's a teamwork.

For those who ask why Korea doesn't take this to the international court:

This has been mentioned time and time again in previous articles regarding Dokdo but Korea doesn't see the need to take it to the court because they see no reason to fight for what they rightfully own.

It's the exact same strategy that Japan uses with the other territories it disputes with China and Russia because they see no reason to fight for what they believe to own.

Geez... it's all just about money ain't it

I guess a big part of the blame should also be placed on Abe.

He had the golden opportunity at the start of the pandemic to put measures in place / cancel the Olympics but nope... he just handballed it to the next person and is now living comfortably somewhere in his mansion.
