I think it is the principals job to handle these situations. When any parents comes to school they should have to talk to the principal before going any further. Parents should not have free access to teachers at anytime. If the principal says there is just cause to speak with the teacher about an issue then an appointment can be setup and parents, principal, and teacher can discuss their concerns. However you need a strong willed principal for this plan to work.

We don't learn everything in history school books. Many times the best accounts come from those who were there and lived through it. If you want a true account of what happened you need to search for those books and there are plenty of books related to the "Rape of Nanking".

@ Zenny 11. You seem to think the court staff and mediators are helpful and I have to disagree with that. Maybe they are for most of the people or maybe they are for Japanese people but in my case and in every other foreign case I am aware of the court completely sided with the Japanese person and what they wanted. The mediators told me it was best for my son if I divorced my wife. We never saw a counselor even though I suggested the idea. The court went out of its way to make good on all of my wife's suggests no matter how unreasonable. I hired a lawyer and went through the process. I thought law would prevail in the end. I thought I could find justice in the court. Now I realize I was wrong. It is best if you stay out of court (like others have said). My ex is not a reasonable person but the court is more unreasonable. You only waste time and money in court. So in conclusion, something has to be done so the children have access to both parents. Japan has to change its laws for the benefit of the children. Japan could do and needs to do much more to protect all children. They are the future.

@fishy. How should Japan go about stopping these senseless deaths. I feel these young girls in need (in this cases she is older) are not aware of their options. You mentioned the government offices will help. Where did you learn about this? Do they teach it in school? If so when do teachers tell students about options such as adoption, foster care, counseling, abortion, government support, etc. When do they teach moral and ethics? right and wrong? From my understanding this type of education is not in the curriculum but I think it should be. The government of Japan needs to do a better job helping children in need whether it is through education or some other means!!

I agree with wiskeysour. The Democratic Party of Japan's (DPJ's) slogan is children first. The media along with the DPJ needs to do more to let women know about their alternatives. Counseling, drop off locations (as in Kumamoto), adoption, foster care, etc are just some of their options. It is irresponsible of the government and media not to act quickly on this issue. It is a growing problem that is not getting the attention it deserves. RIP little one.

You can teach someone a lesson without violence and without humiliating them. Unfortunately it was OK for teachers to use violence in class not so long ago. If teachers can do it then it must be OK for parents too. There needs to be more discussion in school about what is right and what is wrong. It seems like some people have a hard time understanding the difference.

Unfortunately I have talked to adults who were abused as kids and many of them said their parents said "this is education this is not abuse". I sometimes feel some Japanese don't know the difference between abuse and teaching someone a lesson.

If Japan had a clear set of divorce laws and enforced them then this sort of business and these sorts of problems should disappear. Since the divorce laws are not clear and NOT enforced insaneness follows. The family laws in Japan must change and be enforced. It is the only way to protect the children.

Where does Ohnuki get his facts? Is he talking about most of his cases or most cases in Japan? Either way it is simply not true. There is no evidence most woman have been abused. If there were statistics or evidence I am sure Ohnuki would mention these things. I wonder why Ohnuki was removed from the US embassy's list of recommended lawyers? I am guessing it is because he had several complaints filed against him for acting unethically and immorally. He should be removed from the Bar.
