@Samit Basu

Iam sorry, but this does violate US and EU sanctions .

Well...iam sorry also that you apparently are unaware of the fact that Japan isn't part of Europe or a member of the EU.

Therefore Japan isn't in violation of US and EU sanctions !

furthermore Japan is free to make it's own decisions concerning its stakes status with the Sakhalin project.

The USA seeks to provide freedom to multiple ethnicities ,nationalities and multiple religious groups and beliefs systems and political groups and the gender minority.

Its not surprising to see frequent crimes in the USA with all these different people living together .

The USA culture of assuming to be the greatest country on earth certainly doesn't seem to be helping .

It is entertaining how the article trys to save face and not make them look completely incompetent by using pathetic exuses.

And lets not forget they actually sent the man another payment after they realized their mistake.

How could anyone not scoff at this humorous story and floppy exuses !

Japan agrees to obtain these capabilities there will be no need to host the USA military.

Announcement of directly targeting China on a national news site is just a recipe for disaster with loose lips.

Are we to believe the Japanese military doesn't covertly sneak attack in ninja kamikaze style anymore and misdirection isn't used ?

You sound knowledgeable of which countries are involved with the Sakalin 1 &2 project.

Perhaps then you can also inform us of which country obtained the stakes that were given up recently by the UK and USA companies and any other stakeholders .

Is Japan and China really the only other stakeholders ?

I doubt it .

Okinawa has 160 islands and i wouldn't call that a tiny group.

@dagon

There's definitely a difference between indigenous an native.

You can't just migrate somewhere and become native.

With all due respect Hawaiians are endemic indigenous Pacific islanders, and the first migrations timelines are definitely well established.

Furthermore if you every ask the Fijian elders or Molocan will tell will tell you there was people already living there before the Pacific islanders arrived.

@Strangerland

Japanese people named the people of Okinawa in an English name why ?

First of all the name Oki-nawa is a Japanese name and not an English name.

Oki-nawa is a romanized translation of Japanese kanji.

You may have noticed how the Japanese have a penchant to change anything Chinese named into Japanese just like they did with the name Karate.

The Japanese changed the Ryukyu kingdom name to Okinawa because the name Ryukyu was also a Chinese given name.

Ryukyu is also romanized and the Chinese translation is - the land of smiling immortals.

As you probably know romanized Japanese is called Romanji whereas romanized Chinese is called Pinyin.

Feel free to research yourself.

Interesting fact is that the Ryukyuans actually have their own language and had their own names for their lands or people .

@dagon

Parallels between Okinawa and Hawaii aren't really similar as the Ryukyuans are natives and the Hawaiians are Pacific islanders indigenous people's

The genealogy of Hawaiians and Japanese are related where's the genealogy of Ryukyuan Natives and Pacific islanders isn't.

Its futile to argue the relatively short time period the indigenous Pacific islanders migration to Hawaiian islands compares to the extremely long time period of the Ryukyuan natives inhabitants lands.

It only took me a few moments to realize this article was written by a non Ryukyuan aka Okinawan.

Okinawans did not choose to be Japanese - in fact they choose to be recognized as not Japanese.

If you want to compare the negative impacts that Japanese government vs the USA government has had on Okinawa and Okinawans then i think perhaps you will realize the truth.

Japan invaded and stole a sovereign nation they call Okinawa and attacked the USA and numerous other nations in Asia.

80 years later are we supposed to trust Japan has truly changed ?

If Okinawans are truly Japanese then why doesn't the Japanese government and Japanese people treat them equally ?

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Posted in: Why frustration lingers in Okinawa 50 years after its reversion to Japan See in context

The original people's living in the now called Okinawa islands were not Okinawans as Japan has named them after the annexation.

Regardless of what the Japanese government has chosen to call them - they are the Ryukyu people.

The Ryukyuans are not Japanese- their DNA is that of the Malaysian, singaporeans and Taiwanese native.

Although they are now known as okinawans and Okinawa is ruled by Japan the Okinawans/Ryukyuan have made it absolutely clear they are not Japanese !

Originally the Ryukyu kingdom flourished with trade and was protected by China .

The Ryukyu kingdom was from Taiwan to the Tokara islands - including Taiwan !

Its very true that the Japanese government and people continue to treat the Ryukyuan people with discrimination and with disdain.

The bad players are without a doubt the Japanese and USA occupation of Okinawa.

China did more for the Ryukyu people's than Japan or the USA ever did , and China didn't slaughter them or use them as a human shield or force children to join a war.

The way the Japanese government has treated the Ryukyu people is unforgivable

People's reproductive rights !

Women seem to conveniently ignore the fact that men have anything to do with a pregnancy.

Iam pro choice and that includes both people that are responsible for the pregnancy

Freedom to chose abortion by both of the consenting people that created the pregnancy.

Not only a woman's choice .

@skeptical

I didn't say include testing to be balanced.

I said to include tests because innocent lives were lost due to nuclear weapons.

My point is this - any country that used nuclear weapons for tests or in conflicts where innocent civilians perished or became sick are guilty of crimes.

Same goes for weapons of mass destruction.

Japan had signed agreements not to twice prior to using weapons of mass destruction against Korea and China and then signed again in 1993 not to but admitted to possession of sarin for defense purposes.

Japan isn't to be trusted with lethal weapons.

When referring to nuclear weapons being used and innocent civilians perished or becoming sick - its only fair to include all countries that have used nuclear weapons against civilians whether in a war or during testing.

The British also tested exact replicas of the Hiroshima nuclear weapons multiple times in Australia islands 7 years after the nuclear holocaust of Japan .

The Australian aborigines who perished or suffered never were compensated or received medical assistance or even surveyed to document the effects.

The Soviets also conducted tests
