Posted in: Annual eel-eating day becomes pricey treat in Japan See in context

Honestly, I've never experienced a culture as willing to walk to its own demise, in various ways, as this one, and just mutter "shouganai". At the very least, if you guys want to eat them into oblivion, stop crying about it being lost, and definitely stop blaming other countries and cultures for pointing out the stupidity of overfishing/eating WHILE you lament the disappearance of that you overeat.

Hear, Hear!

Every so often in our 242 year history. A rebirth occurs through purge. I have said it before and I will say it again. America will never be reduced to a drowning wailing swimmer or a third world country. These statements are preposterous. America is great. Will remain great. Even great in its darkest controversial times and politics. A fine example would be 911 and we all came together as a country. We are a young nation full Patriots. President Trump says. Make America Great Again. I say she is already great young and learning.

Very stirring... I imagine you were humming "My country 'tis of thee" whilst writing, but whistling as you stroll past the grave-yard, though understandable, isn't going to save you, son. You've elected a madman, a charlatan, a witch doctor, a cretin - to be perfectly frank. Nevertheless, good luck and keep your chin up.

Chaos, confusion, and highly questionable decision-making by its leaders are all hallmarks of once great nations in the throes of rapid decline. In the years to come, the US will assume more and more the persona of the drowning swimmer, flailing wildly in panic and posing as much danger to itself as to those in any proximity. Sad to see, really.

Good luck to Abe - he seems very focused on destroying Japan, bit by bit, and that is something I absolutely support.

On the biggest stage of the world's most popular sport, Japan has bought shame upon itself - pure and simple. What a lack of character. What a tremendous loss of face. All the "but... but... but..." attempts to rationalize it only make it worse.

US and Japanese pressure and sanctions is what brought NK crawling to the negotiation table in the first place. This is one of the great diplomatic feats in modern times and a decisive victory for the allies

Hate to break it to you, Shinzo, but Japan couldn't influence something as minor as a livestock auction... As for "diplomatic feats" - well, just keep dreaming and good luck with your creative writing class.

Give it up, Japan. The rest of the world is fully aware of your guilt. Your whitewash and revisionist nonsense is exactly that - nonsense. Face it - you have neither honour or dignity.... you are a serial liar, a laughing-stock, and worse. GFY.

They have to change the peace constitution and will have to build full fledged military to protect the country from barbarous neighbors. I welcome if it happens so.

I wonder why the US has a military presence in Okinawa...Oh, thats right - because the Japanese were a primary instigator of a horrific war of aggression and were forced to unconditionally surrender. Now then, what were you saying about barbarous neighbours...?
