"Voluntary questioning" what a nice way to treat public servants accused of corruption.

Perhaps other citizens who aren't filthy rich will be granted this, maybe like never.

His statement that it would be a waste to delete the footage is made from the viewpoint of how useful it is to those involved with porn.

They have had weeks to operate their paper shredders, and try to delete their computer files.

The intention to search the LDP offices was announced in the newsvery publicly days in advance so even common citizens and their dog had a lengthy heads up.

Don't ecpect them to find anything that could be used to incriminate anyone beyond the usual suspended sentences, unless they would like to make an example of someone to 'regain the public's trust' (even if that were to be the case you could expect the scapegoat to be pardoned and have his sentence commuted at some later date after demonstrating the necessary remorse and contrition).

@Simon Fosten

Yes, I know perfectly well that given the choice between a country run by communists and country run by racketeers that the Americans chose government by the mob. However, that was sixty years ago. Everything that has happened since then is on the Japanese themselves, especially the way they let Shinzo Abe get back into power after his farcical first administration.

Actually it wasn't just a choice between communists and racketeers- there were those who sought to build a coalition for and by the people, but displaying McCarthyesque paranoia the US shut down anything that didn't support US conservative interests with said mobsters, racketeers, and war criminal imperialists such as Abe's grandfather Kishi Nobusuke, who we now know was instrumental in installing the Unification Church in Japan (Kishi let them set up their headquarters on his land)... and if you somehow believe that the US hasn't been just as active in pulling strings in order to ensure the US-amenable LDP stays in power as they were in the post war era then I'd say you are just a touch uninformed about US geopolitical strategies and the lengths they will go to to ensure Japan keeps buying boatloads of weapons and keeps following the US agenda.

@Simon Fosten

Look, the whole foreign involvement thing is a bit off-topic

If anyone becomes familiar with how the LDP came into existence in the post-war era one will realize 'the whole foreign involvement thing' is the root cause for all the endless misdeeds perpetuated by the LDP. The fact that nowadays most Japanese people are not familiar with this information is a key reason why they keep voting the LDP into power.

Kishida is just the latest face of the LDP, we now know that even under foreigner approved Abe the LDP was just as if not even more corrupt. There will be no change after Kishida is replaced, the LDP and its foreign partner will continue to enrich themselves at the expense of the people, as they always have.

Posted in: Kishida plans to replace chief cabinet secretary Matsuno: report See in context

It all leads back to how the LDP came into being in the post-war era.

In a nutshell, it was dirty and corrupted from the get go, so you were never going to get good respectable governance with these guys, ever, and you probably won't be able to get rid of them being that they were installed and continue to be supported by a powerful foreign entity.
