@SuperLib

Have to go with Badsey, drones aren't working out too good in Pakistan (check the latest mishaps), for example. 'Course there are other options, so no one's saying give up. And yeah, I'll use hyperbole if I want to. And you can argue things the way you want, alright?

Yes, drones are the answer, drugs shall be stamped out, and only the bad guys taken out. Thank God it's all so simple. As we all know, technology solves everything without unforeseen mishaps.

USNinJapan2

Get a clue from HermioneGranger- we're all "glad the US is offering assistance, but it is also a given".

And you are right, this is about the US gov't's reaction, not how many points can be scored by ex-pat posters for Uncle Sam.

Stop using this catastrophe as an opportunity to promote the image of the US. Some of you have reached new lows.

That stuff's so old news it's not even a conspiracy, it's a given. Like otumfuo said, you deal with the US, you gotta be prepared to be messed with, and if you can't take it, get out of the game.

"They are great places to escape to...total privacy..."

Well, 'cept for that one out Shinjuku west exit behind Excelsior cafe. Walls are so thin in that cat house that you feel like all your neighbors are auditioning for narration of an AV anime flick in your living room

The list of troubles and hotspots has just started. Countries that were easily suppressed and discounted in the past are becoming enabled. Reigning in the arrogance would be a good first step, if you can manage that. Think of it this way- you bully some classmates in grade school because they're so much shorter and naive than you. Years pass. You meet them again in high school. They are now larger, savvier, more enabled, and part of a larger gang who are all pissed off at you.

Now, the thing with other countries is, they don't just graduate from high school and disappear somewhere. Keep up the arrogant posturing, and something at some point may give.

Flying propaganda into another country on its equivalent of July 4th in the states will be a sure way to provoke a reaction

Maybe we should send some more troops in again, eh, that would solve everything. It certainly didn't cause any problems in Iraq, or the Middle East, did it?

If you really think the US gov't cares in a heartfelt way, you are sadly mistaken. Your country is a strategic issue, nothing less, nothing more.

If only the US were truly about freedom, rather than shout "Democracy for all!" while pillaging natural resources, exploiting cheap labor, "opening" new markets for Mac and Coke and Costco while local businesses get steamrolled and communities broken down, setting up military bases for geopolitical positioning in order to perpetuate more exploitation in other locations, ad nauseam... and guess what, The Egyptians and Yemenis want the US to get the hell out, rather than be "the top dog"

US trying to leverage what's happening in the Middle East to Cuba. Speaking about Zapata like they really care. I think I need a hankey for this one, it's so touching.

Posted in: Arrested U.S. official in Pakistan is actually CIA contractor See in context

"CNC..so he just shot 2 nice fellows who were just following him? I find your story of the events quite hard to believe."

Well now that we know he's actually CIA, it's hard to know which, if any, information given out to the mass media is to be believed.

If you're working undercover, something goes down, and your background becomes known, you have to deal with it; something, or someone (possibly including some action on your part) has blown your cover, and once it's been printed in the dailies, it ain't coming back, 'specially after one of the widows of one the guys you've shot has committed suicide.

"i find it interesting that leah dizon didnt really get too far in america in terms of her modelling (if you can call her american work 'modelling') but in japan, she was ranked #1 on all kinds of polls like 'best looking' or 'celebrity you want most as a girlfriend'"

In the entertainment business, connections will make or break you, moreso than in a lot of other fields, as promotion often looms much larger than, say, merit, or (cough) talent. How you make those connections is another question altogether.

Posted in: Bahrain security forces fire on protesters See in context

If they're gonna invade Iraq and get all self-righteous about Saddam, then they ought to go in where they could save civillians being brutalized by another dictator's forces. Do one or the other- intervene in the name of a good cause, or just stay the hell out in all cases. Be consistent instead of picking and choosing based on how many dollars and resources you can make off with.

US very proactive in liberating Iraq from terrible dictator who happened to be anti-US, but content to look on while pro-US Bahrain dictator sends his military to brutalize civilians. Geopolitical positioning at its finest.

Posted in: Chevron fined $8 billion in Ecuador See in context

This is the type of story that normally people never hear about. It is how multinationals work with western governments to exploit other countries. This is why people are p.o.'d about the US meddling in everyone's backyard around the world. Shout "democracy" while draining a country's resources/befouling its environment and using cheap labor. And yes, the military are often called in to soften up the natives and get things set up, so they are part and parcel of the whole criminal operation.
