Just an afterthought I understand the local fishing industry have immense power and a nightmare to deal with when it comes to drilling offshore.

Japan has a large reserve of gas in 100m deep water on the east side of japan. The front end engineering has been completed and the plan was to connect the gas into the old existing pipeline that was connected to the Iwaki Oki platform. Its an INPEX project I believe but I don't understand why they can't make this happen. It could be producing in just over 1 year.

Must agree with some of you, this is a bad photo of Ballmer as he looks unconfident about the product. Looks like he is not the right one to promote the product.

I find the japanese are quite tolerant. For example, In the rush hour mornings I see some pushing to get on and off the trains that could be classed as abusive behaviour and aprt from some disgruntled looks I haven't seen anyone complain yet. If the same thing happenned in Europe there would be a punch up

Doesn't look like he is doing pushups in a safe place. His body is stretched across what looks like a path way. Also as he breaths in so that he can breath out as he pushes he going to breath in all the dust.

Someone mentioned that he is creepy doing pushups next to kids... maybe some of them are his kids

Posted in: Woman stabbed, seriously injured on Tokyo street See in context

In most countries, normally incidents happen like this later at night when it is dark. As Maria said It is worrying the random time of attacks even during the day and the attacker being a stranger, I must agree. Someone mentioned unless you are Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan you can't defend against these attacks. Let me tell you as a martial artist myself even I wouldn't be prepared for a random attacks like this and neither would Bruce and Jackie.

Knife attacks are difficult to defend against without getting hurt. If someone comes at you with a knife and you think you can outrun the attacker, then run to a safe area. I am thinking that the 27 year old woman may have out run the older man. Most people carry bags, use the bag as a sheild from the attack, while beating the crap out of the attckers legs until he goes down, then run to a safe area.

Posted in: Woman stabbed, seriously injured on Tokyo street See in context

This attack happenned during the daylight hours, yet the girl had to call the emergency services herself and the paramedics are reported to have found her. Where was everyone else???? Didn't anyone see this happen? was there no one around to help her? I just don't understand how so many people live here yet no one sees anything, or is it just me that thinks this.

We must look out for each other to help reduce these attacks and the severity of the outcome.

Posted in: Japan's LNG, oil demand to remain strong after reactor restarts See in context

Japan have subsea gas reserves, 100% japanese owned, offshore the east coast. Engineering has been done. It would only take about 18months to get the equipment manufactured and installed and the gas pumped through the old Iwaki Oki pipeline to shore in the long term removing the need for gas import, and switching on the nuke plants.

Looks like all lighting is going LED everywhere. I think these are low voltage lights so I guess transformers will be required as well. Perhaps this is where the added cost is?

@kariharuka I understand that you can get diffusers or the likes to provide softer lighting by changeing the wavelength

As I don't understand the whaling industry and I would like to see the killing stopped but I don't understand why japan is the victim of anti-whaling yet Iceland, Norway, Denmark where reported to have killed more whales in 2009 than Japan.

My question is whats the difference?

Posted in: 75% of meat from Japan's Pacific whale hunt unsold See in context

I know nothing about the whaling industry I don't like to see whale hunting (shown on TV) as these animals I think are too large to be killed quickly and painlessely. It is distressing to see whatlooks like a slow painfull death.

Incidents like this happen in US regularly I would like to see guns banned in US, but as someone pointed out it probably wouldn't work. As an example, people are not allowed to carry guns in Norway and look at the massacre that happened there. No one had guns to defend themselves and shoot that nutter down.
