Posted in: Trump pardons Flynn, taking direct aim at Russia probe See in context

Amazing all the Trump supporters here sticking up for Flynn...

As a member of Trump's transition team, Flynn spoke by phone on December 29 with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. The calls happened as President Barack Obama's administration was issuing sanctions against Russia for its alleged interference in the 2016 US election.

When news of Flynn's phone calls became public in January, administration officials, including Vice President Mike Pence, said the conversations focused on logistics, not sanctions.

"They did not discuss anything having to do with the United States' decision to expel diplomats or impose censure against Russia," Pence told CBS.

But US investigators looked into the claim, and the Justice Department last month warned the Trump administration that Flynn had misled administration officials about his communications with Kislyak and could be vulnerable to blackmail by the Russians.

The White House stood behind Flynn -- until it didn't. The retired Army lieutenant general resigned Monday night, admitting he had "inadvertently briefed the vice president-elect and others with incomplete information" about the Kislyak phone calls.

Here was a guy in Dec 2016 while Obama was still President, and who had no official government position yet, called the Russian Ambassador and told him "Trump will be easier on Russia". But he was caught on a secret recording, and when asked about the meeting by the FBI, lied about it, and also lied to Trump and Pence.

And now Trump pardons him....maybe he was doing what Trump directed him to do...

Hmmmm.....

@lincolnman You can hate Trump, his supporters and their blue collar jobs and every policy Trump enacted but to claim Trump was in an way working for Putin or Russia is just a big fat lie.

And you can live in your far-right bubble filled with Kremlin-sponsored propaganda and worship your defeated cult leader...

And if I was a Trump supporter, I'd be careful about using the word "fat"...

Probably the only promise Trump has kept in four years....talk to Russians and lie about it, and I'll make it go away...

You only have to look at Trump's pardon of Flynn - for talking to Russians then lying under oath about it...

It's clear there are probably several people even more angry at these distinguished, experienced Biden professionals than Trump and his supporters - Putin, Xi, Kim, and the Mullahs...

Putin is obviously losing his Puppet and Talking Head. Now come real sanctions and pushback on his forays into Ukraine and Georgia, and his poisonings of his opponents - on our allies soil...

Xi loses his business partner - who has been giving the CCP millions to have his clothing line made in their sweatshop factories. And who stood by and did nothing as Xi just swooped in and took over Hong Kong...

Kim, well, no more love letters buddy...

And the Mullahs loved Trump - what better character to hold up to the Iranian people on the shallowness and incompetence of democratic government...

Yes, the tyrants and despots around the world are no doubt in a funk...just like a certain former reality TV host, failed businessman. and one-term Impeached President we know...

It is interesting that President Trump pursuing legal avenues to contest the election results is portrayed as trying to "shred our Constitution"... kind of shows the thought processes on the left for what they are.

What would you call encouraging election officials to invalidate the results of the majority of the voters in their state?

I am also not sure what "abyss" that a possible future Presiden Biden needs to pull the US back from. The "abyss" of record low unemployment for all Americans of all racial and ethnic backgrounds? The "abyss" of energy self sufficiency? The "abyss" of peace deals between Muslims and Israel".

If you don't think over 260K American deaths, an economy approaching the depths of the Great Depression, unemployment in the millions, and a budget deficit the highest in history isn't an abyss, you better watch where you step...

I will give the new folks a chance before commenting. I will say that there is nothing wrong with American cabinet members and diplomats pursuing an "America First" policy. That's their job! China surely is pursuing a "China First" policy, the EU is doing the same, Russia the same, so why should America not put their interests ahead of others as well?

You were fooled. Trump was never about America First - it was always Trump First, Russia Second, China Third... He's given Putin and Xi all they asked for - Putin remains in Crimea/Ukraine and poisons his opponents, and China took over Hong Kong and made trade agreements with America's partners...

For the last four years its been America Last...that changes on Jan 20th...

Hi Lincolnman -let me answer that question with a question of my own. Why are the lawsuits still ongoing and what do you know about the next 48 hour news cycle that the rest of us don't?

That's not an answer....once again, who are we to believe; Trump who says its fraud or his lawyers who say under oath that it isn't?

Who are we and you to believe? Trump who says the election was fraudulent and "stolen", or his team of lawyers who say in court;

Giuliani: "This is not a fraud case"...

His Attorney in Pennsylvania: "There is no evidence of any fraud"...

His Attorney in Arizona: "We are not alleging fraud or anyone stealing the election"...

Please tell us....

Lots of Trump supporters posting here - none will answer this question...

So the question is, why is Trump and his team telling you (Trump supporters) that it's all a fraud, but when they get in front of a judge, they state the exact opposite?

I see the Trump supporters here are still on the "It's all fraud and it was stolen" bandwagon...

But if that's so, why are all of Trump lawyers saying in court - when they are under oath by the way and could he held in contempt if they lie - that "this is not a fraud case" and  "we are not alleging fraud or that the election was stolen"...

In a recent Pennsylvania federal case, Giuliani alleged “widespread, nationwide voter fraud” in his opening remarks. But under questioning from the judge, he retreated. “This is not a fraud case,” Giuliani later admitted. In the same case, Trump lawyer Linda Kearns said explicitly that she is “not proceeding” on allegations of fraud.

In yet another state case in Bucks County, Pa., Trump’s attorneys signed a joint stipulation of facts that explicitly admits that they are not alleging fraud, despite the President and his lawyers’ repeated public claims, “Petitioners do not allege, and there is no evidence of, any fraud.” The stipulation also says they don’t allege or have evidence of “misconduct” or “impropriety”.

In Arizona, Trump campaign attorney Kory Langhofer told a judge, “We are not alleging fraud in this lawsuit. We are not alleging anyone stealing the election.”

So the question is, why is Trump and his team telling you (Trump supporters) that it's all a fraud, but when they get in front of a judge, they state the exact opposite?

@lincolnman. Yes, much of what you say is true. So the question is;

Do we waste time, money, and our finite amount of energy to be angry with Trump?

Or; do we roll up our sleeves and get to work fixing things from day one. As an old engineer that is the path I would prefer.

Anger and trying to extract some type of “revenge” will not solve one of the very valid points you identified. It will only divert resources and detract from fixing them.

My personal opinion only but I don't support needless investigations and time-wasting, showboating hearings...

But crimes and misconduct must be legitimately investigated - and individuals who avoided being indicted by the cloak of the Presidency must be held accountable.

All the current DOJ investigations of the Trump Org and tax fraud must continue - to include any other criminal activity identified.

And "Individual-1" should be be indicted as a "co-conspirator" as outlined by the judge in the illegal payoff case.

Now that this four-year nightmare will soon be over, it's interesting to look back on the Trump administration and see the toll it took on America...

We already know about the over 250K deaths (and climbing) from a botched and incompetent COVID response, the cratered economy and historic unemployment, the highest budget deficit ever...but the worst has to be a fractured and divided America - Trump's hate-filled and corrosive rhetoric driving Americans apart...

And our adversaries?

Russia continued its expansion and solidified its gains in Crimea and Ukraine - and assassinating and poisoning dissidents abroad - while the leader of the free world said and did nothing...

China further grew its influence by completing trade agreements with Asian countries after the US backed out. It dominated world institutions after the US withdrew. Most significantly, it completed its takeover of Hong Kong flouting previous agreements that protected its freedoms and the US did nothing....

North Korea developed and fielded an ICBM that can reach the US and Iran furthered its path to a nuclear weapon...

NATO weathered but was weakened by US indifference and overt criticism...

And people throughout the world who live under tyrants and dictators - who would look to the US as a leader of democracy and freedom......were ignored....

The uncountable harm to the US from these past four years will take decades, if longer, to repair...
