People will buy it regardless. Apple still has that sexy brand image.

Posted in: Sharp to sell world's 1st 8K TV in China from Oct See in context

I'm pretty sure people don't buy TV's just to watch the regular TV channels. There's plently of options to get 4K now for movies. tv shows and video games and I'm sure same will be true for 8K in a couple of years when internet speeds increase.

Saying that, there isn't much differnence between upscaled HD, and 4K when you are sat 1m from the TV in these small Japanese apartments anyway. 8K isn't going to change that.

Posted in: N Korea fires missile over northern Japan; Abe speaks with Trump See in context

This is a very serious escalation. Past overflights were before North Korea had nukes. Little Kim is a lunatic. Could you imagine what might have happened had that missile malfunctioned over Hokkaido! I don't know this for a fact of course but Japan may not have tried to shoot down the overflying missile because they likely didn't expect a launch to the north and had no anti-missile units stationed up there.

Not trying to take from your point, but I'm pretty sure he's not loading these missiles with nuclear material and wasting it into the ocean. It's likey just an empty shell.

Saving your parakeet may seem ludicris, but so is saving your friend in powerful waves when you have no way of getting yourself back to shore once you have gotten to him/her. So many people die trying to save someone else.

A friend I can maybe understand, but If I was ever in a situaiton where it was a member of my family, I don't think I would even think about the consquesnces of my own life. If I didn't jump in to help and they died I would never forgive myself.

140ton to 100tonnes (~110ton) isn't much difference for the money it will cost. Seems TEPCO are really out of options.

I just hope something fall in China to wake them up.

That's great... Let's hope 'something' falls onto innocent people because you want the leaders of their country to wake up? You wouldn't be out of place in Kims regime with that outlook.

Well if you stop to take a look, all WWII combatants have pretty much forgiven each other and are focused on current issues. There are only two countries that continue to harp on WWII history.

3 countries. Japan should also be included in that group.

Obviously they wouldn't have been given permission to use Gunkanjima itself due to the controversy so I'm curious where they filmed this.

Reminds me of the movie I-robot. The AI in that movie tried to correct the issues with humanity as it thought was correct. Despite it not being in our best interests. I'm personally really excited to see the development of AI.

Change labor laws to remove compulsary overtime. Educate people that they won't lose their job for leaving work on time with the new labor law change.

Posted in: Japan Tobacco, other companies still subverting anti-smoking moves: WHO See in context

@loame - They didn't remove it, they just moved it across the street

I think you should check the meaning of 'remove' in the dictionary.

Thanks, I did as suggested.

The ¥2,000 fine would be sufficient if it were enforced. When I was there a fortnight ago there were police patrolling the crossing and they just walked straight passed the smokers and ignored them.

Yeah, hopefully the police will begin to enforce this and will lead to the first push to change this situation.

Posted in: Japan Tobacco, other companies still subverting anti-smoking moves: WHO See in context

The best thing to come of this push so far is, they have finally removed that smoking area next to the Hachiko statue in Shibuya.

They didn't remove it, they just moved it across the street (in the direction of 109)

...there were still pathetic smokers hiding hiding behind the subway entrance puffing away knowing full well there are no consequences for their illegal actions.

The fine is only 2000yen and hardly ever enforced, so it's not that surprising eh?

Posted in: Dentsu to face open trial over high-profile overwork case See in context

The labor laws need to change. Mainly the one that says you must work overtime if your employer tells you to do so. Remove this and companies would lose power to harass those that leave on time because they have a life.

Never check. Thoughts of work leave my head the second I step out of the office on Friday. I find it the only way to be able to enjoy my weekend.
