Posted in: Koi story: Priceless Japanese fish make a splash See in context

What I read: some 200 years ago, farmers started creating indoor ponds during winter and, surprise!, they discovered that carp (and some other fish) when not exposed to the sun will develop colorful skin the next generation. So, what version is true?

Rio is the worst Olympic event ever: bribery, corruption, politics, polution, decay, over-spending. And no legacy. Shame on IOC and Brazil politicians

From what I read, Apple did the RIGHT thing to avoid iPhones turning off abruptly. But Apple is

100% WRONG by not informing customers that a) the company was slowing down some iPhones, b) customers could have replaced the battery. I am an Apple customer, but I think it’s ugly what they did, acting in the shadows

What you guys don’t get is that this construction is a global statement that Japan is still in the lead pack of countries holding ultra refined technologies that will matter in the 2050s. By then, the current Shinkansen line will turned into slower, local train service and this Maglev line will be the wonder of transport that other countries will admire and respect

Make a home experiment: put your hand under a led lamp. You will feel that despite the bulb is not warm, the light it emits does make your skin feel hot. It emits UV rays. I wonder what damage led lights can cause in the long run to environment and people,

@wtfjapan: Of course, of the 1 billion who wants the iPhone X, only a small fraction will have enough credit to get it, the said 15% you mentioned. The 15% Apple knows has the money. The 85% remaining, well, the have to content with the Androids. As for personal experiences, I was forced to use Android for one year at my previous job. Didn’t work for me. At all.

As it happens every year, lots of people whining about other people’s money, spending and feel-good factor. The ones saying “get a life” sound exactly the ones so unhappy they don’t have one. They don’t realize their whining is exactly a reflection of their own ego.

iPhone X is not a wonder, but it will be what millions (and I dare say billions) of people around the world want in their tech side of life. That’s a fact proven by Apple reaching the 1 trillion dollars threshold in 2018.

Posted in: Blade Runner 2049 See in context

My review: a good movie. Although it shares resemblance to the first, it can be seen as one of its own league. That said, I like the first best. The noir atmosphere of the 1982 movie is inebrianting, unforgettable. The 2017 one has not a single element that causes the same sensation. Some scenes are quite cheap, like the one when the group of survivors are shown, or the drowning scene. All the scenes with replicants lack the feeling to make them more powerful and emptier than their human partners - bar the ones with Gosling, he’s great. They also lack the “automation” the ones in the 1982 show, like when Zorah dies after being shot. I liked the soundtrack, dramatic in a chill-out way. But it’s not up to Vangelis, not even close. My general opinion is that Villeneuve has not the insight and feeling enough to make it a 10/10 movie, though he had all the elements on his hands. It is an awesome movie. Gosling is superb, gorgeous. But I wonder if it will resist the impact of time. Anyway, it’s a must-see movie. The best I watched this year. Hope a sequel is on its way, but with another director this time. 9/10, IMO.

I think this is so disrespectful to Kiwis - although I confess I laughed a little bit.

And, yes, it’s a pity USA didn’t make it. Russia WC will lose some of its shine without them. Time to reorganize and face the truth: Concacaf qualifying are tough. Latinos play soccer since they are 6, 7, on the streets. They develop their talent naturally, while in USA players look like they developed it after certain age. Recruiting players from the streets is the key point, IMO

That’s why EU is so vital to a peaceful Europe. EU will intervene in search of a satisfactory solution to both sides. Catalonians have the right to desire their own identity, but a total cessation from Spain in impossible. Without EU, England will face a tougher task when dealing with an Ireland move like this one.

Rio is being investigated for bribery, President Lula has paid in cash, watches and jewelry to some IOC members to get the rights to hosting the games. I am sure soon Tokyo will be making ugly headlines too. Why LA and Paris see the Games as a "good thing"? I used to believe in the goodness of a city willingly welcoming athletes and tourists. But this is so deceiving now
