Posted in: How bad do you think the tension on the Korean Peninsula is going to get? See in context

Very bad.

As long as North and South Korea are not re-united, they will continue to fight.

Unfortunately, the history of the Korean Peninsula shows that there has always been a North-South divide on the Peninsula.

In addition, today, South Korea has progressed tremendously, while North Korea is lagging behind very badly.

Hence, re-uniting the two Koreas will be extremely difficult.

And, this being the age of nuclear technology, the threat of nuclear weapons being used is always present...

Always be a demand for -- workers in the food and entertainment industry. Endangered -- workers who can be replaced by robots.

Posted in: Tokyo Kimono Week See in context

****As far as the basic design is concerned, kimonos -- like all national costumes (sarong kebayas, cheong-sams, saris, etc.) -- have a standard cut. What's important is the pattern on the kimonos, which, unfortunately, cannot be seen clearly in this photo due to the lighting. I sincerely hope the lighting improves during the rest of the fashion show!

I'm a doctor and I've seen my fair share of patients with sciatica but I've never known anyone who'd want to commit suicide because of it.

Posted in: What do you think of Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama's decision to kick SDP leader Mizuho Fukushima out of the cabinet because she disagreed with his plan to relocate the U.S. Marine base at Futenma wit See in context

The election pledge to relocate the U.S. Marine base outside Okinawa should never have been made in the first place. While my opinion of both Hatoyama and Fukushima has dropped, I still consider Fukushima a better politician than Hatoyama as, at least, she is someone who is not going back on her election pledges. My say is that Hatoyama himself should step down as Prime Minister and call a snap election as this issue has reflected badly on him not only as a politician but as a man as well. Someone who cannot keep his promise on an issue as important as this may not be able to manage a country as complex as Japan.

He died at the age of 50 years, when his hit album, "Thriller" (the best-selling album of all time), has sold an estimated 50 million copies, and as he was rehearsing hard for a comeback with an unprecedented 50 concerts scheduled. Strange how "50" keeps recurring.....

goodDonkey,

Well said! History and belief systems aren't one and the same thing -- they're two separate issues. Nobody has the right to force his or her will on another person's belief system -- that's almost the same as slavery.

Yasukuni is a Shinto shrine, only Shintoists should decide its fate and settle any issue relating to it.
