Posted in: Japan to ease COVID-19 entry curbs on foreigners with resident visas: NHK See in context
I was stuck in the US for 5 weeks...I had left Tokyo the day that the borders were closed. I had to sign a form acknowledging that my return was questionable....I returned when the US had really started to become infected and was brought to the back at Haneda and asked why I was returning while they showed me the paper I had signed....after a phone call to my wife (I am not a PR....just a spousal visa).....I was allowed to leave....I had arranged for a private pick up but when I left the baggage area, nobody actually checked if I had a ride....I did my home quarantine for 2 weeks even though my airport test results came back negative after 3 days

Here comes the junk numbers again....do the math on 15,000 in all of Japan... given the liberal smoking laws of the past 50 years....the mortality rate should be astronomical....I get it editors....you do not like smoking...my solution was simple....do not patronize establishments that allow smoking...so now you drag it into the work place...well played

Posted in: Japan wrestles over smoking ban as Olympics loom See in context
The second hand smoke statistics are total nonsense....now the slant on it is that its women and children...do the math of 15,000 people in all of Japan and break that down....is it 1 person in Tokyo? Why aren't any of these stats weighed against the fact that Japanese have enjoyed their incredible life span while having such a high percentage of smokers? And as to all the people who do not enjoy smoking I say simply go someplace that does not allow smoking..I say build non smoker rooms instead of locking up the smokers. I fell victim as an owner of a night club in NYC where the smoking bans started. I did not smoke at the time but I allowed my customers to enjoy themselves. The smoking ban when it was pursued in court was not for customer protection. The lawyers at the time knew they could not win with the vague statistic of second hand smoke, Instead it was passed as a protection for the workers in the establishments. Think about it...I invest my money and take all the risks of operating a business only to be told that I must not let people smoke while they are enjoying there night out. I say to non smokers, if you do not like smoking, please go someplace else. Instead I am told I must bow down to unwanted customers in a business that I own. Customers can always choose where to spend their money...that is the root of capitalism and the free market economy...as I used to say in NYC...don't go away mad just go away....my business my choice

Like most good pitchers....he will be amazing in his first season. Then once opposing hitters have a chance to study his pitches and motion, he will be roughed up as much as he cruises. He is a legitimate talent and he is CERTAINLY not a "rookie" as many people seem to suggest

Never really had a bad experience with any flight attendant....my father worked for Pan Am for 22 years and I know what an awful thankless job it is...the only thing I require on a plane is a drink...no food thank you very much, and some coffee when I wake up as I arrive....flying is bad enough these days, so I try to ignore it as much as possible....he deserves everything he gets...the I was drunk excuse definitely does not apply

*>@Kentaro75, you don't seem to understand. Offering FREE travel would bring in more money now than when everything's fixed up. Out of the 10,000 who would be coming, a large percentage of this would like to see the damaged areas as it is. In turn, international groups may sponsor some aspects of the campaign.
I am surprised the brilliant minds here who have jumped on this story fail to comprehend simple math
10,00 free tickets = approximately $1,000,000 USD....amount of money injected into the economy here should cover that plus.....no one complained when the government handed free money to people living here to go and spend to achieve the same effect a while back

people here are so stupid, the average age of AKB48 is well over 18. the lead girl in the new single, Mariko Shinoda, is 25. it's hilarious how threatened people are by sexy, powerful and amazing girls... selling more than your faves, breaking records and making more money than everyone here combined
This phenomena makes me sick...first of all they are salaried, disposable workers. They are puppets for a production machine that pollutes every available medium to squeeze as much money as they can, while preying on the narcissistic gluttony of girls that want to be famous. There is not one iota of talent in this pack of lolitas. As far as being threatened by "sexy, powerful girls"..... I only wish that Japan idolized the really incredible women in this country. Not these cardboard cut outs. Grow up

People have a right to defend themselves. I aint working out, I aint jogging, I should have the right to own a gun.
This article isn't about the right to self defense...it's about crop damage...I enjoy the wild boar my father-in law hunts and Japan is just fine without guns for "self defense". If you think you have the right to own a gun....go back home wherever you need to exercise that right.

The "kidnapping" is irrelevant in this case. She is guilty of violating a court order...period....It appears that she wanted her precious green card and proved that by trying to sneak into Hawaii to keep it. Just as those in Japan that want to retain their Visa status here must abide by the LAWS, so must she....not our interpretation of them. This is the classic case of wanting to have your cake and eat it too...Every year...many fathers lose custody of their children and must make sacrifices to be near them if they choose....this is the same problem she was faced with and she bolted...she belongs in jail in perpetuity until she submits to the original court order....If she really cares about her child, the little darling must be sent back and handed over to the father BEFORE she gets sprung from the detention center. Then she should be able to stick around to undo the damage that SHE caused
