Posted in: Why is Japan such an unpopular tourist destination? See in context
The biggest problem is the language barrier present even in the most "tourist friendly" places of japan. The level of English people can speak is nearly nonexistent here. And I don't just even mean the normal folk, but literally everyone!
The biggest shock for me was when I arrived at the airport in Narita and not one person working there was able to speak even just passable English. The first and last person I met in Japan that could make herself understandable was the women at the train information. I think such an international place should be the most foreign-friendly but it wasn't. And if you can't read Japanese, pardon me language, you're screwed since nobody will be able to translate if needed. And then there's the feeling you get that nobody want's you there I don't get anywhere else in the world.
While Japan is a beautiful country, I think you should go somewhere else if you can't speak or read Japanese or don't have someone with you that can.
