This is a wonderful gobbet for President Obama. I guess the nuts really don't fall too far from the tree.

It hardly seems deserved to me but boy oh boy does it have the neo-cons' undies in a bunch.

Posted in: Obama's Olympic pitch draws Republican complaints See in context

Chicago became a finalist for the Olympics, the 2016 Olympics on June the 4th of last year, while Bush was in the Oval Office. Hillary Clinton conceded the presidential race to Obama on June 7th. Is that when all of the anti-American sentiment really started, when Hillary dropped out? Because Bush was still in the White House. Also, all these people conveniently blaming it on Bush all forget that Chicago was named by the IOC as one of the four finalists on June 4th, 2008 while Bush was still president.

it’s conceivable that he deliberately chose to go to a dangerous place, whether or not he had any intention of killing himself.”

What thoughts had crossed the writer’s mind as he stood at the top of the cliff will never be known.

By us. Two do know.

It's over. Crayon Shinchan lives on. The writer is trying to milk this for all it's worth, which isn't much.

Posted in: Tokyo police nab 31 train gropers in Sept, including 15 repeat offenders See in context

I've been "groped" by an unbelievable number of local women.

Too bad these people make it uncomfortable (paranoia?) for those who do not share their weirdness. I usually enter, ride and exit a car with my hands above my head.

Posted in: Analysis: Can G-20 succeed where G-8 failed? See in context

But even with all the failings, the G-20 could still offer more promise than the old G-7, if for no other reason than the right people are now at the table where decisions are being made.

If I were running a multinational company I would be in favor of a G-20 running everything so I could lobby just one group and have clear sailing to 80 or 90 percent of the world's consumers.

Posted in: Showmanship Moore's top commodity in 'Capitalism' See in context

Fact is billions are living on less than a dollar a day due in big part to the G20 nations but a lot of us couldn't care less about anyone outside of our family and close friends.

Some people skrimp and save, vacation in Hawaii and eat at McDonalds while they're there. People do what they do and survive using their wits and... capitalism.

Owning shares in an unethical company doesn't mean you support their activities.

Yes, and one also finds that corporations tend to contribute to both Democrat and Republican parties.

Posted in: Showmanship Moore's top commodity in 'Capitalism' See in context

Moore didn't foreclose on people or kick them to the street in order to get a bonus.

No, that would be Bill Clinton, Barney Frank, and Chris Dodd who caused that.

Posted in: Showmanship Moore's top commodity in 'Capitalism' See in context

Moore has emphatically made the claim repeatedly over the years: "I don't own a single share of stock!"

He's right. He doesn't own a single share. He owns tens of thousands of shares – including nearly 2,000 shares of Boeing, nearly 1,000 of Sonoco, more than 4,000 of Best Foods, more than 3,000 of Eli Lilly, more than 8,000 of Bank One and more than 2,000 of Halliburton, the company most vilified by Moore in "Fahrenheit 9/11."

But Moore's loophole may be that the stock is actually owned by his non-profit foundation – not him personally. However, Moore signed the Schedule D for its tax return personally and controls the activity of the corporation.
