"Loose nuclear material” conjures up a picture of cornflakes on the kitchen floor. Any uncontrolled nuclear material would surely come from Russia and the resulting detonation would occur in London.

"it’s about concerns over the fate of Japan’s corporations, its real estate, its food supply—even its women."
I'm not sure how Japan's real estate has been managed, but the corporations, food supply and Japanese women have been neglected.

Obama has to sell this with a focus on getting Osama Bin Laden. You don't hear his name that often in the news anymore.
The Soviet-Afghanistan and Iraq-Iran conflicts took eight years too, and it seemed they had forgotten what the hell the point was and called it quits.

Rather than complain about the Japanese police, I believe that the reluctance for Japanese society to offer information on crime is the major reason why the odds are stacked against the police.

Posted in: Delta, SkyTeam offer $1 billion to Japan Airlines See in context
Delta should invest in JAL and the Hatoyama govt should promote this deal.
JAL has so many hi spec slots in Haneda, Narita and Kansai that are the perfect launching pad for Delta to the Chinese market.
The share price is at a discount right now which supports the low dollar.
Delta will bring a more realistic management structure and strategy.

Thanks jea711. I was wondering whether he would face a jury or not. I'm glad the Japanese police found him and now we have to wait for due process. However, by being silent without a jury, he's not helping his case.

When trains have segregated carriages, chikan squads and retired people acting as "etiquette police", the contributor seems naive to think the concept of chivalry ever existed in Japan.

"Although Akihito has visited China, he has yet to travel to South Korea, largely because of lingering animosities over the war."
If the Emperor did visit SK, he'd find that young Koreans are forgetting (or ignoring) their history too, and that the animosity is dissipating.
However, the Emperor is displaying the very thing he is worried about: a reluctance of confronting an external viewpoint of Japan.

There has been a lot of independent negotiation within Asia in terms of free trade deals and this is diminishing the U.S's importance in the region. But when China push their agenda, it will be interesting to see how the likes of India and Japan respond.
