1)price 2)service 3)safety I prefer Air NZ, Singapore Airlines and Cathay...would love to fly Emirates to see what its all about but they dont fly to NZ from Japan!

Posted in: Are seatback touch screens on planes a good idea? See in context

I think they are fine - better than the old fashioned "everyone watches the same movie on the same big screen at the front"...however, yes there is the problem of people "jabbing" the screen because they are not sure how to work it...but hey....

Posted in: What do you think of Facebook? See in context

It has positives and negatives. As someone wrote, if you take the time to customise it and limit the amount of info on there, it can be useful. You dont have to put all and sundry on there and you can block or hide the info of people that put WAY too much on there.

Posted in: Aussie lifeguards push beach safety for tourists See in context

Surf conditions in Aussie are different (as are the ones in NZ) to Japan. Generally the swimming areas here dont get huge waves or have holes/rips just off the beaches! And I agree with Harper....perhaps Japan needs more patrolled beaches too and teaching about swimming between the flags. They are there for a reason, not decoration!!

Posted in: Everyday Harumi: Simple Japanese Food for Family & Friends See in context

I love cooking - (although after a rough day sometimes it can be a chore) and the final results are worth it! Recently my father-in-law (Japanese) commented on how wonderful my cooking was!!(made my year and day!!) My husband has his turn in the kitchen too - usually on the weekends and sometimes its the same thing but I dont mind because one day off is bliss for me!! He also says its therapeutic for him..... Marushka - Harumi`s book uses a lot of ingredients that you will be able to get in Europe. I have her first book (present) and its fab!! I will probably buy this one too!

This is just getting worse!! I hope they catch the filth that did this and subject him/her to the same punishment (but of course that wont happen realistically!) that he/she dished out to this poor girl! I feel for the family - this must be horrifying!!

Posted in: Self-centered zombies running rampant through Japanese society See in context

Ah I think its a worldwide phenom and Japan is just catching up! However, in saying that, there is a difference between being rude and being ignorant! I take great delight in "politely" reminding housewives, obaasans, business men, high school kids etc to "get in line" "dont push" and saying "sorry" ( especially when you push past on the train!) - all in Japanese! The look is priceless - yeh...not such a dumb foreign person here!!! I was brought up to be polite but you know what, it works both ways (had this argument with my own grandmother years ago!). 10 years ago, Japan was a polite place to be - now I am not so sure! They expect us to be polite (or is that just a figment of my imagination!) - yet they cannot bestow on us the same courtesy now! No the world has gone to the dogs and manners are definitely in the heap!

Tsunami or not - one has to feel for the Samoans. They have gone looking for the injured to recovering the dead. A beautiful place shattered by Mother Nature!! May they rest in peace!
