Posted in: Court defers ruling on fatal car accident after driver's remarks See in context

I never understood why the word of the defendant's regret was taken at face value here. So many times a perp gets a light sentence because they "expressed regret" or "explained how they didn't mean to cause harm" or some other nonsense. Why in the world do the judges just take these comments at face value and assume that these people aren't so bad based on some bold-faced lies?

Posted in: Macron says he raised concerns with Japan over Ghosn detention See in context

Didn't seem like the concerns went anywhere, I'm sure Abe answered something like "I'll look into it" with no intention to actually do anything. Macron should have spoken publicly about the matter, that definitely would have gotten Japan's attention as they hate any damage done to their international reputation.

Posted in: Renault chairman says there is 'real desire' to make Nissan alliance work See in context

Renault needs to take advantage of their ownership in Nissan and force them to move forward, because just working with them will lead to what happened to Ghosn. You can see it now as Nissan is drafting new rules and suggestions to separate them further from Renault. If you try to play "fair" with Nissan they'll walk all over you, Ghosn certainly understood that and I feel like Renault's new leadership doesn't seem to realize it.

Posted in: Rakuten, Seiyu to open logistics site as online sales jump See in context

Seiyu net supermarket is good, other supermarkets either are overpriced compared to the normal stuff (AEON), or have a subscription fee (Amazon Fresh). From what I could see Seiyu's prices are pretty similar to the store version and they have a large selection with no additional costs outside of shipping which is free with a minimum spend.

I get the feeling that this guy will get put away, he's from an opposition party and they have him dead to rights and the public will demand his head. Just pin everything on him so that those in the "correct" party who are also likely involved will evade any additional investigation.

The most frustrating thing is that these messages prove that Boeing was lying the whole time and yet idiots still believe the nonsense that companies put out in press releases.

It's like the Enron emails all over again, and it's only going to get worse and worse.

Posted in: Japanese gov't, prosecutors, Nissan call Ghosn's accusations baseless See in context

"I was wondering what kind of comments he would make, but I was disappointed," said Saikawa, who himself was pushed into resigning from Nissan in September after it was discovered he was overpaid by roughly 47 million yen in an equity-linked remuneration scheme.

Even though Ghosn named him directly, this is still a stupid comment to make even if he didn't say anything interesting. Yeah, real disappointed, I'm sure he was really hoping that Ghosn would come with ironclad evidence showing the corruption and illegal tactics used. Apparently the interviewer didn't bother asking Saikawa about the evidence Ghosn showed that directly implicated him though. Is there not a single reporter in this country who will ask a hard question that doesn't support the official Japanese view?
