Is it really that surprising that those who have grown up without acceptance from family or peers would withdraw from society? Especially in an age where we are constantly bombarded with unrealistic images of perfection and then ridiculed for failing to live up to that standard. We are all ingrained with the message that we will be valued by others based solely on our looks and/or our success, but there will always be people who can't reach the metaphorical goal post for some reason or another. The problem is not that these people are weak or lacking motivation, the problem is that these people have not been accepted by society for who they are and what they can contribute.
