They should expand to other countries. Family Mart in Sydney would be amazing!

I'd say they contribute to the wars more than anything. NATO in particular.

Democracy doesn't work. You need a highly educated population for democracy to work, and even then, you get nupties like Trump getting elected. The whole system is a lie.

History should be remembered so we can learn from the mistakes made and so we can appreciate the "here and now". On the same coin, whilst we should all remember, we should also move on. Learn and move on.

Nailed it @wtfjapan. Those are collector gold at the moment. Not to mention how cheap they are (relatively speaking) in Japan. Serious money to be made from import/export.

They'll need to encourage the businesses employing those people to move too. Nobody will move if they've got an unreasonable commute to work.

If they're gonna fund defense, taxing the tobacco industry is an excellent way to do it! Increased defense, less smoking, yes please!

If people honestly think this political ritual / tradition will ever change, they're delusional. This is not something we foreigners (at least some of us) will ever seem to understand, let alone have a right to dictate. Getting mad at symbolism is a futile exercise in frustration and anger. Let it go. Let them do their thing. The point is that somewhere in all this madness is respect, mostly for the deceased. I see nothing wrong with this.

China only wants Taiwan back and to keep Western "Democracy" out. The US is really the antagonist in all current global conflicts.

Posted in: Do you think going to the cinema will become a thing of the past due to the increasing popularity of streaming services? See in context
Much as I absolutely love my home cinema setup... Not everyone has the wall real estate, funds, or desire to invest in a quality projector (I can strongly recommend the Epson LS500 UST) and sound system. Personally, I abhor the public cinema experience. Filthy and loaded with distractions (couples making out, kids giggling or throwing stuff around, old people trying to keep each other up to speed on what's going on on-screen). But public cinemas will never die. People love the experience, I'm just not one of them.

It's amazing how many people seem to think that this tit-for-tat form of politics with North Korea, China, and Russia will somehow yield a positive outcome. We're already in major global recession that will only get worse, thanks to the West's sanctions against Russia. China's already on edge with the US presence in the region and the former Australian government's taunting and overall stupidy. Do we really want to keep poking at nuclear North Korea with their Napoleon-complex leader? Not saying what Russia, China, and North Korea have been doing are correct, but let's face it, the West hasn't exactly behaving any better.

I hope Albanese patches things up with China. Australia should have deeper and closer ties to its Asian neighbours than with the US. The US is only looking out for its own interests, at the expense of its allies across the Pacific.
