If I recall correctly you're only required to inform tenants about deaths on the property for one year. Most people will probably not be aware of this case in a couple of years.

GoodlucktoyouOct. 19 02:18 pm JST@Magnus. How about researching thermo nuclear bombs, especially those in easy range of Tokyo.

A 100KT bomb is the same whether it's a plain old nuke, a hydrogen bomb or even the 100 000 tons of TNT. KT rating is an estimate of its power (in terms of equivalent power in tons of TNT), not the physical size. Obviously there would be nationwide effects, but not in the form of blast damage or strong radiation. A bomb in in Sapporo would have zero direct effects on Tokyo, or even on most of Hokkaido itself, depending on prevailing winds.

Additionally it isn't confirmed that NK even has a hydrogen bomb, let alone that this is bomb they are capable of delivering with a missile.

Good luck with your shelter, I would stock up on respirator filters though unless you intend to sit there for a few years!

TorafusuTorasanOct. 17 05:36 pm JST@MagnusThat works out to over 200 visits to various European countries for you. Either they are such not bad places, or you continue visiting because you really need the work.

Thank you for the tally, yes I need to work. Did you have a point somewhere?

Even the largest hydrogen bomb ever designed wouldn't obliterate Hokkaido and the ones likely possessed by North Korea (250kt) have a limited damage potential. Roughly a 7-8km diameter urban area could be mostly wiped out, but for anything beyond this getting under tables and covering yourself with something soft would make a huge difference if windows are blown in by shockwaves or debris. The US used cartoons to promote safety routines (which, by the way, were the same as the ones suggested here).

On one side people in these comments criticize Japan for being all doom and gloom about the likelyhood of an attack, but then suddenly they're too light hearted?

I don't think there's any point in painting a too dark picture, especially as children are the most important group to get through to and there is little sense in traumatizing them unecessarily.

I visit all those a couple of times a year, and have been for the past 15 years. I would dare claim Japan has had a more positive development, but of course I wouldn't dream of speculating in why that may be.

Once the breakdown of the applicants' nationalities is released I'm sure you'll find the vast majority aren't from countries you'd typically consider "war zones", namely Turkey, Tibet and Sri-Lanka.

This is why they're not granted asylum status, no country recognizes people from these countries as refugees.

I think it could find its way to restaurants. It's difficult to get a hold of shika deer now unless you are a hunter or have contacts, so many restaurants source their venison from New Zealand etc.

I would love for wolves to be reintroduced, they have only been gone for around a century. I think the issues would be of a limited scale, wolves are much more shy than most carnivores, certainly than the Japanese bears and human fatalities are practically unheard of.

The deer population would be much improved with the wolves culling vast amounts of old and weak animals.

Once I was an on express train and it accidentally slowed down almost to a halt at a station it wasn't supposed to stop at.

I think the automated robo trains are generally on elevated lines without a lot of junctions and light signals, not to mention without any crossings for cars or people.

Also they are lower speed trains.

AndyJuly 20 02:08 am JSTJapan is the only country I know of where such an asinine excuse who actually be taken seriously by the courts and justice system. Bravo Japan, Bravo.

What do you mean? Practically all murder cases in the US start with an insanity plea, which is what this is.

"I was drunk" or "Can't remember" is less hilarious than "I was out of my mind for exactly 2 minutes while I butchered my neighbour."

Since the husband went to the length of setting up a camera I'm sure this wasn't the first time she's been behaving oddly.

Harry_GattoJuly 19 05:19 pm JST

Would have been much worse had she used bleach.

You'd be rather hard pushed to drink much from a bottle of tea with enough bleach in it to kill you, and even then it's not like you wouldn't notice right away and it isn't particularly lethal with treatment. (Drinking milk basically)

LudditeJuly 19 05:44 pm JSTAs for getting a seat in a cafe before you've been served - I hate that selfish behaviour.

I also find this annoying, but many cafes request that you do this so it's not necessarily people being selfish.

I find it ties up each table for several more minutes than necessary and probably costs a couple of sales per day but I guess the theory is to avoid people grooving about with trays trying to find a place to sit down.

Posted in: Number of female hunters in Japan on increase See in context

Toasted HereticToday 08:59 am JSTWhat is the attraction with hunting? Hopefully there will be an interest in disrupting such cruelties now.

Heretic, Japanese deer have no natural predators and, 200 000 are culled every year, yet they are still causing a lot of damage. Overpopulation of deer doesn't mean the weak animals will necessarily die off and leave the stock stronger, rather you get a huge population of low quality animals and disease. If hunting ends, the countryside will be overrun.

Just out of curiousity, do you disagree with wolves as well because they are cruel?

Saikyo Line has women only carriages in the morning, it's the first car on trains going downtown.

There are also cameras in every carriage, although I doubt they would show anything but everyone's heads due to the overcrowding.
