Because they don't have the choice, especially in a "Japanese" company.

A shark conservation proposal was defeated earlier this week and several other proposals to regulate the trade in endangered shark species are in trouble

I could imagine China taking the lead against shark conservation proposal.

They even held a reception Wednesday night for uncertain delegates that included plenty of bluefin sushi.

hehe... aren't we rubbing in a bit...

Fishing nations won a victory over environmentalists Thursday when a U.S.-backed proposal to ban export of the Atlantic bluefin tuna was overwhelmingly rejected at a U.N. wildlife meeting

I first supported the ban because I thought the proposal had the support of the world. Looks like only rich nation supported the proposal.

Posted in: Japan won 5 medals at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. How would you assess the results? See in context

"The Olympics these days are all money. The teams that spend the most on training, facilities etc., win more. The athletes who win more get cash rewards. "- Very true. Imagine if the chinese government starts taking the Winter Olympics seriously, they will take over the standings. That's just my opinion.

Posted in: Japan won 5 medals at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. How would you assess the results? See in context

i thought they did fairly ok. Don't think the people were that disappointed as the Japanese media might have made it out to be. I thought the media failed to focus on the right atheletes. There were so much attention toward the mogul uemura, figure stating(ando, asao), and the 15yr old skater. I was like the most of the Japanese who were expecting them to medal, but came out disappointed. When Japan won a silver and bronze in men's 1000m(?) speedstaking, most of the people in Japan didn't know who they were. At least it was better than the One gold medal(figure skating) they won in 2006. Or is it?

Posted in: Are there any sports that you think should be dropped from the Winter Olympics for whatever reason? See in context

i don't know which event. But if there is a event where only 3 countries always medal, it should be dropped. EXample. Women's Soft Ball.

Don't think Pluschenko was "robbed." there were a few noticeable mistakes and still Pluschenko scored that high. Imagine if he tried a little harder, he could have easily won it. anyways "robbed" is the wrong word to use.

Posted in: What do you think of Japan's TV coverage of the Vancouver Winter Olympics so far? See in context

Don't think Japan's coverage is centric compare to other countries. Japan Team is competing in all events. Only around five have a chance to medal and it's quite obvious the five would get a lot more coverage.(Unless an underdog Japanese wins a medal and he/she will get lots of coverage) US team has a lot more than Japan team that are capable of medaling. Obviously the coverage approach would be different. It's all about getting tv ratings. If the TV companies think showing more news about atheletes around the world more would get better ratings, they would have. Now I don't think it's fair to complain about what the Japanese want to watch in the Olypmics. If they want to watch more of there own althetes are doing, that's fine with me. If they want to watch Ian Thorpe type atheletes more than Japanese atheletes, that's fine with me.

Posted in: Antiwhaling protester to be brought to Japan for questioning See in context

I don't think Bethune was brave, courageous, or a maryter, or what ever honorable word that s out there for him. I don't even think what he did was stupid. He did it because he knows he could get away with it. And that's smart. He and the rest of the world knows Japan has never been able to stand up for anything.

Try boating on one of the chinese boat(china consume over 80% of the world shark fin) and see what they do with Bethune in china. When Iran and North Korea starts whaling, I doubt Bethune dare to mess with them.

Posted in: Bosses uptight over newbies' ignorance of phone protocol See in context

the freshman's attitude in this story was wrong. But I still remember my first week working in a company(might I add, a japanese company). The fear of saying something wrong made it really hard to pick up that phone. There will always be a few who s not afraid to pick up the phone on the first of work, but rest of the majority of the freshmen are not ready yet. Cut the freshmen a little slack, they all will eventually pick up the phone.

Unfortunate to see someone to be blessed with his ability and not be able to take on the responsibilities of that power. I love the bad boy yokozuna image. But there s always a line that one must not cross. And I think he crossed the line this time. He needs to learn from his fellow mongolian Hakuho... Go Hakuho!!
