Posted in: Which side do you think looks more in the wrong following Wednesday's clash between Sea Shepherd and Japanese whalers? See in context

"All this seems irrelevant to me. Japan is clearly 100% in the wrong."... I guess any act taken by the activits are justifiable if you put it that way. They should take a further step and actually start killing whalers to get there pt across. Since japan is clearly 100% wrong and actions taken against them are irrelevant.

cleo. i really doubt the people on that boat were the same as SS. I was trying to say in general "activists." Anyways. does it matter which of the activists did it? aren't those activist doing for the same cause?

Cleo-A couple of protesters boarded a whaler to present a letter of protest to the captain a year ago, after which they were handed over to the Australian authorities who returned them to their own ship, with no charges. i just love the way you put. I guess the whaler stop the boat and invited the protesters on the boat so they can be presented a letter of protest. It was nice of Japan to hand over the Australian authorities and press no charges. So you are saying because the whalers invited the protesters, thats why they didn't weren't charged? I don't get your pt.

btw. I also mention twice on harrassing, getting too close to the boat, and throwing things. I wasn't concentrating on just boarding.

DelicousWhale-If that is the case, shouldn't these activists protest against there own government, since there own government have the sole power to make changes?

sparky- If the Japanese whalers are in Australian waters, why don't they just notify the coast guard and toll the boats back? If they are in Australian waters, whalers have to follow Australian laws and suffer the consequences.

cleo- didn't in the past a boat like Sea shepard board an Japanese boat to protest? And my pt wasn't about that. It was just one of all the dangerous tactics they have done before to get attention.

Let's put whaling aside. And make an example of two cars on the road. One truck is minding his business trying to work. And another mini car tailgates it, throw things at it, comes really close looking for an accident, and maybe have someone jump on to the truck. And then an accident happens.... if you put aside the personal problems both drivers might have against another.... I don't see how the instigator shouldn't take most of the blame. I apologize with some of you don't agree at all with this example.

Sea Shepard. They were looking for trouble. Harrassing, throughing things at the Japanese boat, getting very close to it, and sometimes even boarding it dangerously. Don't they have a sea law that prohibits those kind of acts. Maybe they are both at faults. But clearly Ady Gil bares a lot of responsibilities.

can't believe Amuro is still only 32. Feels like she has been in the music industry for a couple of decades already.

I have to believe she was in a serious condition of depression to do this. My wife has depression and I have read everything you could imagine to try to understand her state of mind. And the only reason I am still sane is because of my son. My pt is- if she had a serious condition of depression when she murder-suicide, I have to believe she was mentally insane. Either way, i dont care...it was "total selfishness by the mother"...period!

Posted in: Can anyone suggest a solution to the U.S. bases issue in Okinawa? See in context

If taking the base off Okinawa is not an option, then a realistic option I see is by compensating people living near to the base. I might be wrong, but one of the biggest problem I hear with the bases are that they are too close to residential area. A way to quarrel down the resentment is by maybe pay money to people living near the base. I don't live in Okinawa so I will never be able to understand what they are going through. But if I was paid like 1 mil a yen for living there, maybe I will suck it up and live there even with the noise. Or maybe a tax exemption might sound more probable. I don't know...this is just a thought.

I love Sara Palin. I really left sorry for her when she got bashed by the media while she running for vice presidency. That said, if she tries to run for the VP or the presidency, I'll make sure to not to vote for her and for the other candidate.

I never really liked her acting. A lot of people might enjoy her acting, but for some reason, her acting looks really un-natural....kind of fake

Posted in: Karzai effectively handed 2nd term as Afghan president See in context

It was a cowardily act for Abdullah to withdraw from the runoff election. UN watchdog would have been more careful to see if the runoff election was fair or not. They were never given that chance. And if the runoff election was rigged, I believe the UN watchdog will again void a lot of votes. And Kazai will than be forced to make more changes for maybe another runoff election. By withdrawing from the runoff election, we will never know. Abdullah's action was just unjustified and cowardily. Abdullah just delayed the democratic process of Afghanistan.

Posted in: Do you think U.S. President Barack Obama is a good choice for the Nobel Peace Prize? See in context

If it was someone else, there probably wouldn't be much of an disagreement. But since this time it's a polirizing figure- the sitting president of the united states- maybe some many of us expected more. I would have rather giving Obama more time to enlarge his pofolio of acheivements before I vote on him. Like I said before, maybe the competition was weak this yr.

Posted in: Do you think U.S. President Barack Obama is a good choice for the Nobel Peace Prize? See in context

i think it's all about competition. Maybe this year's nominees lack depth and the best one they came up with was Obama.

There's always got to be a winner.

Posted in: What is your impression of the English-teaching industry in Japan? Have things improved since Nova's collapse or are there still bad apples in the barrel? See in context

That's take it easy on the JET(I think that's what it's was called). Maybe over 90% of JET are not qualified to teach in there own country. That's why they are "assistant" teachers in schools in Japan. I weight a large portion of the problem with the Japanese English teachers and the Monbusho. Japanese Egnlish teachers are trained teachers that should fully support the JET and not complain most of the time. I believe JET program was established by the Monbusho to help Japanese teachers and students to get a taste of "native" english. I could imagine it would cost a whole lot more of money to bring in qualified/experience native english teachers to Japan. If they every do decide to do that, I have a feeling Japanese teachers would feel inferior and complain that they might lose there job.
