Since the 2nd world war the US has;

Attempted to overthrow more than 50 governments, most of them democratically-elected.

Attempted to suppress a populist or national movement in 20 countries.

Grossly interfered in democratic elections in at least 30 countries.

Dropped bombs on the people of more than 30 countries.

Attempted to assassinate more than 50 foreign leaders.

And they have the gall to critisize others, disgusting.

The landing scene from saving private ryan. Gave my girlfriend a panic attack. Finally an end to the crappy gung ho american movies promoting war, for a while anyway, until that trash, the hurt locker among others arrived. A friend of mine took his grandfather, who was at normandy, to see that movie, he said it was pretty accurate.

Americans baffle me. They spend more on "defense" than most other countries combined and have one of the worst healthcare services in the 1st world, actually worse than some countries NOT in the 1st world and yet they complain about America turning into a "European style welfare state" where EVERYONE has access to healthcare. No wonder the rest of the world laughs at them and considers the US to be one of the most uncaring and aggressive countries in the world.

"Iran already is defenseless against the superior American armed forces." <<hahah, somebody should really stop watching so much fox news.

Posted in: Six things that foreigners feel are overpriced in Japan See in context

The price in Japan is relative. If you are a tourist then yes Japan is expensive but if you work here then the wages are much higher than back in your home country so its no problem to pay more. If your wages aren't higher then what the hell are you doing in this country?

Posted in: 200 million worldwide use illegal drugs: Lancet estimate See in context

Look up the word 'drug' in any dictionary and you will find that it covers a multitude of substances including coffee, tea etc. Certain drugs are only illegal because the powers that be, and i don't mean governments, decide they are illegal. Marajuana is illegal because drug companies want to control the market. The only people who profit from making drugs illegal are criminals, and i include the corporatocracy, the usa, in that statement.

I wonder if all these "all american heros" calling Manning a traitor for not following orders regardless of what these orders were, also defended the nazis who said "they were just following orders " during the holocaust. America is a nation built on hypocracy.

sfjp330 It's dumb to make comparison with Hitler. Same comparison was done with Saddam Hussain. Sure, Iran does not use good choice of words and lack diplomacy, but International community has to continue to work through diplomatic channels. So far they have not directly attacked anybody (other than Iran-Iraq war).

Its also dumb to make statements like this without checking facts. Iraq attacked Iran. With WMD's supplied by the goog old USA.

Having spoken to many ojiisans about beer in Japan the impression I get is that Asahi is for youngsters that don't know about beer while Ebisu is the choice of real beer drinkers.

Elbuda convienently forgot to mention that the "issue with drugs and mafias fighting over power" is supported on both sides by either the american government or the banks. A country he whole heartedly supports in other threads. Hypocracy at its best.

Elbuda Mexicano ''Sorry but the USA is like big daddy in this world'' < this kind of comment makes me want to puke. 50 million dead and counting, some 'big brother", more like evil psychotic brother that should be locked away.

This is just the first step. He will end up in guantanamo bay where the americans like to send anyone that doesn't agree with their imperialistic form of democracy. And if he sounds like a ''real wierdo'' Elbuda I suggest maybe you should try thinking for yoarself for once and not believe everything you read in the state controlled press. I include japantoday in that catagory. I bet you also believed Iraq had weopons of mass destruction didn't you?

Posted in: Cyclists feel under siege with new rules See in context

As a cyclist I am also not happy about this. I always cycle on the road and follow the same rules as motorists. Cars I have never had any problems with, in my opinion the most dangerous road users are other idiot cyclists. Just last night for example I nearly ran into an idiot cycling against the traffic, on a curve with no lights. My fear is that now more of these brain-of-a-gnat two wheeled morons will be forced onto the roads. Hopefully Darwinism will sove the problem pretty quickly.

Love the royal WE notasap, should remove the "not" if you ask me. You talk as though you are part small minority that benifit from the perpetual agrression instead of being one of the duped american sheep that are being sent to die in foreign lands so the warmongering ruling elite can amass more wealth. I think you should watch less Fox news.

Sorry but as much as I detest Bush and the like, if the idiots didn't sign up to go and fight in Amerca's wars of global conquest they wouldn't get hurt or killed, no sympathy for them, I save that for the millions of innocents killed during the last 50 years of American brutality.

Zambezi Dan. Two points, 1st, compared to coal, nuclear power isn't dangerous, its the profit obsessed idiots like tepco that manage it that are dangerous, 2nd, no country that has developed nuclear energy first has gone on to make nuclear weapons, its ALWAYS weapons first. Nuclear energy IS necessary, at the moment, its not perfect but at the moment there is NO viable option. Unless you want to go back to living in a cave.

The quote function is crap. Anyway my above comment was aimed at foxie who said this was the worst disaster that ever happened on this planet. What a ludicrous thing to say. Only someone who thinks anything that happens outside of Japan could make such a dumb statement.

As much as i feel sympathy for the innocents who died, something like this was bound to happen. It will also happen again. For too long the USA has been causing this kind of trauma to other people, and still is. Play with fire and you get burned.

Virtuoso i suggest you read that book again. The comparisons he was making were 1, the targeting of civilians ie sept/11 and Hiroshima, and 2, unforseen consequences of badly thought out actions ie Pearl Harbour and the invasion of Iraq
