Posted in: Japanese team returns home after competing in Pyeongchang See in context

Well, actually the Japanese bushido way of hard hard hard training leads to results wasn't working and only tired the athletes so they started importing top trainers for overseas with sports science and other technical degrees to fix the holes in the system and thats why the team this year is the strongest ever produced. The most medals were won in speed skating, the coaches are all from the Netherlands who are the best skaters in the world, the Japanese coachs took a step back to observe. The results speak for them self. Also, no one will come here, the Japanese skaters went to the Netherlands for two years before Sochi Olympics and didn't get results, it's the coaches not what country they train in.

So true. It’s just like saying “You have to study harder, or you have to do it this way.” People are people, not soldiers who get orders barked at. Everyone has their own way of training. Leave them to that and let them enjoy their experiences.

Japan, and I'm sure other countries have done this for years. It's a great organization (in Japan) that promotes great leadership and social skills. My kids love it.

Nice name. Is that the best they can do? I HOPE their policies and actions will be better than their name. Only time will tell.

Posted in: What is femininity? Western and Japanese women weigh in See in context

thepersoniamnowToday  03:45 pm JST

Most western women have NOTHING on Japanese women (generally speaking) when it comes to being feminine.

That being said, I can't stand being with someone who acts like a child, speaks in a baby voice, and is too weak when the time calls for it to stand up for herself.

You and me both. I also can't be with someone who has to rely on another for success while she stays home or goes with her friends frequently while the guy works himself to death and drinks with his mates.

I would also add good old fashioned family values in Japan. Have you noticed that there are hardly any gang activity in Japan. It's always a great feeling that you can walk almost anywhere at anytime here without much trouble. The transportation here is great and I love walking and riding my bike for great exercise. The natural (not fast food) Japanese food here is excellent, and I always love having miso soup with vegetable and rice with tamagoyaki. Yes, it might feel like lunch in the US, but it's a great source of energy in the morning. And finally, there's the peace of mind of good national health insurance without going bankrupt.

This has been very common at many barbers and hair salons. Some even give you a massage and/or a cigarette if you smoke.

Yeah, and that's going to solve everything, eh. Not. If that were my kid being scolded, expect a lawsuit, or the teacher exposed to the media. Interesting that LGBT is an adjective.

English learning will begin in the third grade

Learning? That should read, "English studying to pass a test will begin in third grade" After many years of teaching in Japan I know they 'learn' very little - in any subject. This will just be another dog and pony show with songs, games, flash cards and no real academic purpose. The need to teach kids to read and to teach them the vowel sounds starting in 1st grade. They also should make katakana illegal!

Katagana is an evil of English learning, along with rote learning with grammar translation method without production practice and production.

I'm sure my 7 year old daughter, born and raised in Japan, can speak better (and more natural) English than many of these teachers. Great plan, but let's see how this will work in reality.

It happened to me in the "corporate world" in Japan, but I fought back. It turned out the teacher had a history of bullying issues, but I was the first to actually take action. I brought documentation and recordings to the principal and she was suspended. Just before coming back, I left. Her face was frozen after my report and didn't bother me again.

"Joko" is an abbreviation of "daijo tenno," a title that was given in the past to an abdicated emperor.

I really don't mean any disrespect for the royal family, but I would think a better title would be appropriate. Joko sounds a little like Joker.
