Sometimes I wonder if this country needs more serious day-to-day problems lol. Long term issues abound, but for this to be a focus is oddly cute.

EU will cease to exist within a decade
Idk, I've heard this for more than a decade now.

Best case, a symbolic gesture of solidarity vis a vis Russia. Worst case, wasting a few hundred hours of time and effort for a fancy, embossed book and photo opp.

Remember everyone, while it is easy to demonize those who commit crimes, we need to recognize that many of them are the unfortunate victims of our modern society and really deserve- just kidding. It's great that the police caught them and I hope they are out of society for as long as possible.

Periodic reminder to the comment section that expert opinion is worth more than non-expert opinion, especially when it comes to complex topics like Forex and central bank policy.

Fundamentally, a PM is the "face" of the nation. I'm not convinced that Koizumi would be a bad choice - he's relatively good looking and his "gaffs" tend to be harmless and kind of endearingly awkward. He wouldn't be the best PM in the past 30 years, but also far from the worst.

Cutting to the chase, bro is the weirdest combination of badass and cringe. Let him go but confiscate his little boats. He's a well-meaning imbecile.

The comment section doesn't seem to be fully aware of just how hawkish Takaichi is. Tbf it doesn't bother me, but I could imagine the NYT and Guardian absolutely going ape shhh if she were nominated.

I am not sure whether she would ultimately be preferable to Kono or Kishida, but I think that the reflexive catastrophizing over her Nippon Kaigi affiliations and whatnot may be a bit myopic. He had numerous personal flaws and made some missteps, but I think that a general continuation of Abe's policies and attitudes could be beneficial.
I think my only concerns would be on her statements regarding press freedom.
I will say, the note about her rock-and-roller days is charming, if a bit irrelevant.
