Northern European countries seem to have a good system.

It's disgusting. To even think of doing this reflects the moral vacuum that these dregs occupy.

I made a mistake. I meat to write,

"The only thing women shouldn't do is give a damn what people say you 'should' do."

There. That's much better.

"50s should be the year [sic] to" do whatever the hell you want, because when you are strong, intelligent, healthy, and successful in your career, you don't need some pissants who knows nothing dictating what you should wear, do, say, eat, and shake.

The only thing women in their 50s shouldn't do is give a damn what people say you 'should' do. :)

She's doing well isn't she.

She's actually got a gig in Japan soon, but only one night, in Tokyo or Yokohama. Shame she can't come west. :)

Posted in: Fury as Polanski's new film tops French 'Oscar' nominations See in context

The attitude towards Polanski over the decades clearly reflects the sports and entertainment industry's approach to sexual assault by popular and powerful men in the public eye. Excuses are always found, and in no way does negative publicity "destroy a man's life".

I wonder - Is this going to bugger up the Olympics?

I know that is completely irrelevant compared with the loss of health and life; but it must be on the IOC's minds.

There are government officials who even say things like, 'Evacuees won't leave if we allowed them luxuries.'

Selfish, inhumane thinking from people who have never known hardship or been affected by this kind of tragedy and loss.

Posted in: Ikigai: The Japanese concept of finding purpose in life See in context

One of the words I was introduced to when I first started studying Japanese, years ago. For some reason it always stuck with me - because the concept interested me, and because I didn't have an 'ikigai'.

I do now, I guess, except that according to that Venn diagram, I ought to be getting paid for it, but in fact it costs me. No matter - the rest fits.

It isn't a concept special to Japan of course, and when I read the whole article I hope they mention the French 'raison d'etre'.

He didn't just lick her ear though, did he, though putting that in the header makes it sounds more comical and attention-grabbing. He had been stalking her, and then assaulted her, and physically restrained her.

Here's some of that neutral to positive coverage. For Princess Kate, that is.

I'll stick with most people in the world never heard of her before the wedding announcement.

What's your point? Nobody had heard of Ms Catherine Middleton before she started dating Prince William, and Lady Diana Spencer was a teenage child-carer.

So what does do you think that proves?

she would not be Queen, if not for an American Google Wallace Simpson

She most probably would, as Edward VIII was infertile, so the line would have gone to his brother and his brother's children.

Posted in: No. of 110 calls drops in 2019; 18.4% non-urgent inquiries, NPA says See in context

These calls included requests on how to renew a driver’s license, pleas for officers to scold misbehaving children, drunk callers asking for a ride home in police cars and a request to do something about a cockroach roaming inside the caller’s home.

While considered a waste of time, the second and third of these can also be considered proactive - the caller's (conscious or subconscious) efforts to prevent something worse happening, like beating their kid, or getting hurt at night...

Benefit of the doubt eh.

Bigyen says:

It's the payback from the Crown to the public, in return for all that privilege. The loathsome UK tabloids notwithstanding, I think Harry's forgotten that word.

You mean apart from his years of active service in the military, starting up Invictus, his work with and for veterans, his work to promote improvement in the fields of HIV awareness, mental health, global education...

Yes indeed. His idea of duty is nothing like yours is it.
