DDoS attacks just as ransomware can easily
seriously?
Tomorrow your company is going to be flooded by requests coming from thousands of actors around the world trying to disrupt your services.
How could you prevent that? I'm curious
It's true you can prevent ransomware attacks with proper IT infrastructure and security policies, DDos is a very different thing

Apologizing for something you have no control of .... a very silly thing to do.
I would have expected such an apology if any information was wrong or inaccurate, that will let people think DDoS attacks are something you should be held responsible for.

cool
so in order to claim he's the sexiest man alive they carefully looked at the pictures of all the 3+ billion men there are on this planet
surely that should have been a tough job ...
now waiting for the sexiest woman alive who again I expect to be selected only after looking at all the 3+ billion women that live on this planet

Posted in: EU to impose duties on electric vehicle imports from China from Thursday See in context
A very stupid decision.
VW for example is already experiencing a severe sale slump in China (they're going to close 3 factories in Germany), what do you think it's gonna happen? Obviously China will retaliate with other tariffs and in turn new tariffs against China and so on
An interesting documentary from NHK World (https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/shows/nationtrade) showed that if tariffs worldwide won't be removed that will cost around 9-11% of missed GDP growth over the next 20 years.
Are we sure we can miss so much economic growth while continuing to disrupt global supply chains just because our irrational politicians tell us to do so?
I have yet to find a single company that likes tariffs and duties

Posted in: Do you believe there are still Japanese abductees alive in North Korea? See in context
I think they didn't release all the abductees in 2004 just to be able to blackmail Japan if they ever had to do so.
Someone from the missing abductees is still alive? Who knows ... hard to confirm something like that when the only information they give about them cannot be verified

Chinese fishing boats are periodically intruding Philippines territorial waters ... maybe China will now understand what a nuisance that could be

Given current trends in cyber attacks I wouldn't be surprised that's a ramsonware one and given that the issue dates back to Saturday I'm pretty sure it is
Hopefully they were wise enough to have created backups of everything (and encrypted all their sensitive data), otherwise they should be prepared to pay some hundred millions of yen ...

It's not about replacing human translators because AI is better, the matter is that it's cheaper so even if the translation is not as accurate as the human one in most cases the one from AI is (sadly) just enough.

Posted in: Japan's economy shrinking, although slightly less than previously thought See in context
The harsh reality.
It's good to see the tourism boom as it undoubtedly generates value, but a mature economy cannot rely on a single sector (or few of them) for its economic growth.
A recent NHK documentary showed how China is pouring a lot of investments in sectors like equipment and machinery, which so far have been dominated by Japanese companies.
What will happen if/when Chinese companies will overtake Japan also in those sectors?
Japan really needs to address such issues as soon as possible

Posted in: Japan says it will respond appropriately to disorderly yen movements See in context
Foreign Exchange is the largest financial market in the world with daily transactions worth trillion of dollars. Other Central Banks in the past tried to "correct" currency rate movements but every attempt lead to nothing but losing billion of dollars ... with respect to stock exchanges the Forex market is just too big even for institutional players, nobody can really bias the rates of major currencies.
If they really tried to do that it would have been much better to use that money to improve economic fundamentals, that in turn would really improve the situation.

A bit too late IMO. Similar smart watches (ranging from cheap chinese ones to more solid brands like Garmin or Suunto) have been available for many years.
Other than that the Garmin Instinct (basically same watch at the same price, half the price for the previous model) has been on sale for many years and is extremely popular being like a "g-shock equipped with multiple sensors" (which is what this new Casio watch is about)
Unless it really has superior sensors/functionalities I'm afraid it won't sell that much
