Cafe Nature or Cafe de la Nature Never trust a bistro pretending to be french with a misspelled french name (by the way, same applies abroad for Japanese Restaurant with broken names )

So I my kid, being born to my beautiful Hafu wife, is a quarter, should it mean that people will argue that he/she would better be called a quadruple ?

Words are not important, it is the meaning that you stick to them that is.

You took pictures with them carrying their weapons... If you are not one of their supporters, at least we can admit that you are NOT a journalist, as you let down your ethics. Many real journalists have been murdered or executed by IS, in Syria, in Iraq, in France, did you forgot ?

Lots of ignorance on this thread. You shouldn't have slipped History classes, this might be useful.

YES, those hats and uniforms are similar to the ones wore by Nazis that burnt, raped, killed most of Europe. I suggest Mr Akimoto and ISIS/DAESH-theme next time. Huge potential

Posted in: In your experience, how easy or difficult is it for a foreign resident to obtain a credit card in Japan? See in context

Credit Cards from banks seem still difficult to obtain for some, but from the Credit Cards Agencies like SMBC-Card (especially when it is Airlines Mileage-linked like ANA, JAL...), it has never been a problem. Got mine after 6 months in Japan on my first application, with no Japanese family nor permanent residence.

Posted in: What do you think of streaming providers Hulu and Netflix? Do you watch their content? See in context

I wish Netflix Japan add more subtitles to its content, English for the JP students learning the language, Japanese on JP movies for foreign students, and even for me when I am watching a Spanish or German movie.. I don;t understand, it's in their catalog on overseas Netflix channels, should be easy to do it. Anyway, overall content is good, price is worth any NHK payment

Yes indeed, in 4 years it will be great, but the road to 2020 will be long and painful. Even during Rio 2016, all what newscasters were talking about was Tokyo, Tokyo, Tokyo... I hope they keep a bit of focus on the three main and real issues of Today: Fukushima, Birthrate and the Elderly but I'm losing faith...

Posted in: FA hopeful of fielding British soccer team for Tokyo Olympics See in context

Usually the U-23 teams + 3 extra players (like Neymar did for Brazil in Rio) are sent to the Olympics so this is not a real problem conflicting with Euros. The issue would be much more the level of a British team. Except of course if you take the N-Ireland players to reinforce the pitiful English team to raise the level.

I am amazed that being "hafu" is still an issue in 2016's Japan. They are everywhere today: in media, modelling, entertainment, shoshas, combinis... wherever you go, name it..

And they are getting married as well, and are having children. Those complaining about "mixed race", "half-breed", "hafu" (or whatever stupid label you want to stick on them) have no idea of what is already happening and coming next, with a full generation of "quarters" that will shake furthermore the idea of pure race..

Congratulations Miss Yoshikawa, you are beautiful and paving the way to our children

Posted in: Why do media put so much pressure on athletes to win gold at Olympics, for example, Japan with its judoka, South Korea (speedskating), Australia (swimming), Brazil (soccer), and so on, and then treat See in context

Because nobody told Japan what was the initial spirit of the Modern Games, as stated by Pierre de Coubertin :

"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but taking part; the essential thing in life is not conquering but fighting well."

Posted in: Getting stopped by police in Japan – how often does it happen (and why?) See in context

Over 11 years, I have been stopped twice, but within 10 minutes. It was during the old days when Narita was a fortress. Once immediately after the ID check out the train, and a second one in the Departures Lobby. I raised my concerns to the 2nd officer, who politely excused himself and we both went on with our day.

Considering the amount of taxes we pay in Setagaya, a little effort would be appreciated.

If the Tokyo voters wouldn't have to recast votes every 2 or less years for failing Governors, the money could be put in such urgent matters... Or maybe the Setagaya mayor secretly hopes that the birthrate tops 0.00 to -not do- anything...

If firmly committed to the idea of cutting costs, Los Angeles would seem the most prudent choice.

But in terms of environmental footprint would it ? Unless everybody drives in Tesla-made buses or tramways by 2024. What's lacking in LA is probably group transportation, especially compared to Paris. But it has also lots of good points. It will be one or the other, and an interesting race. May the best win

Yes from 18 at least. In many countries you are considered as an adult for crimes from the age of 16, and judged as a minor under. And before 18, how about withholding the name and just keep it like Taro, 16 ?

I oppose the false research alibi and the whaling lie of the J-Government. And I also oppose the violent quasi-military style of Sea Shepherd which owns no legal authority and has lost all moral authority when they attacked ships at sea with acts of piracy.

Time to boost moderate but deliberate opposition to both.

I would suggest having soap in public restrooms, and paper or dryer to dry your hands, both for practical and disease prevention reasons.. (first example being Narita or the Shinkansen ...) I could add that not every tourist walks around with its own handkerchief.

I invite you to watch Spiral. It was aired in the UK from the start. The 1st season starts slowly, but from the second it's brilliant and breath-taking.The storytelling approach differs a little bit from US dramas, more realistic and less black & white between the good guys and the bad guys.
