He's not in the minority. This is how most of them think. He just isn't afraid to say it.

Japan is very good at teaching math and science. But this country isn't very good at teaching language. English (to Japanese people) or Japanese (to foreigners).

The survey called 495 randomly selected households with eligible voters and 2,168 mobile phone numbers. It yielded responses from 428 household members and 627 mobile phone users.

This is terrible polling. Any reputable, professional polling firm would tell you this is not enough of a sample for it to be a legitimate poll.

Here is the title of the article just below this one:

Chinese ships warn Japan SDF planes to leave airspace near Senkakus

China is in no way an hypothetical enemy. They are the enemy. Any country friends with Russia and N.K. is the enemy.

Posted in: Award-winning author's AI use revelation roils Japan's literary world See in context

It shouldn't be tolerated. The use of AI should be a separate category for literary prizes. Whether it's five words, five paragraphs or five pages it isn't original work. When you write an article you have to cite references that aren't original. Same with a novel, if you use lyrics you need permission. If writing isn't original you have to say so.

Posted in: Japan Inc opens door to more women directors, but managers remain rare See in context

It's deeper than woman seen as "non-career track" employees. It has been the standard in Japanese culture that once a woman gets married she quits her job and becomes a stay at home mom. This is the main reason why woman didn't get promoted. Companies thought women were just going to quit anyways so why invest in them. Most of the current manages grew up in these type families where the mom stays home. It is their only point of reference. But this system is not as attainable as it was in the past. Two income famines are necessary for many. It's going to take a shift in cultural thinking to make any real progress.

Posted in: Mount Fuji climbers from Yamanashi side to be charged ¥2,000 as tourism rises See in context

Stopping the bullet climbers seems unfair. Bullet climbers usually don't stay in the huts, thus they can't make money off the climbers. When I climbed Fuji years ago I started at around ten at night and went straight to the top to see the beautiful sunrise. There was almost zero traffic. When I climbed down in the morning there were tons up people on the way up.

The woman had a history of this kind of work. She also seemingly went to Las Vegas willingly. Suddenly she went to the American police. Either she didn't get the money she was promised or when the men threatened her she became worried.

Good decision. Considering the amount of subsidies and financial assistance Tesla got from the government it makes sense. He's being greedy. He is no doubt a genius of the highest order, but let's not forget all the other people needed for Tesla to be successful: the engineers, the salespersons, workers making and assembling the parts ...

Toyota is too big and powerful and way too influential to suffer any real consequences. The managers did it for the benefit of the company. Untold millions have been made because of the these falsifications. The company will publicly reprimand the managers but privately support them in every way.

Posted in: Charges dropped against group that allegedly broke into vending machine after Noto earthquake See in context

In the end Coke has the right to press charges or not. But the evacuees should not have broken into the machine. This occurred on the night of the disaster. Skipping a few meals or drinks would not have ended their life. It was not a desperate moment. So when the next disaster happens it's OK to break into a conbini if your a little hungry or thirsty?

Fairly standard way of doing business in Japan. As I said previously, this country has an impressively low crime rate for violent crimes. But theft and fraud are way out of control. Many Japanese companies do both regularly.

Laughable. They took the money because they are greedy, and there isn't ever any accountability.

Taxi driver? Sounds like a bad idea. Taxi drivers know their area like the back of their hand. The foreign taxi drivers are going to get lost. How many times do we see in the news taxi drivers being assaulted? A drunk salary man giving a complicated address in slurred Japanese will surely end in violence.

Trucks driver? Well we know which group controls a lot of this industry. It rhymes with makuza.

Boo hoo. You had a tough childhood. Lots of people in this world are abused as children. Some repeat the abuse to their own children creating a cycle. Some learn from it and become really compassionate people with nothing but love for the people around them. But most don't murder 36 people. You have to take responsibility for your actions. We can't choose our parents. But we can choose how we live as adults.

He shouldn't get the death penalty. Being as burned as he is, just moving to scratch his shoulder will be excruciating. Let him live his days out in prison.

Generally speaking Japan is safe (safer than other nations).

However Japan certainly has just as mush or even more of certain types of crime compared to other nations.

The amount of scams that take place in this country are very high. Burglary is high. And since this country doesn't have guns, stabbings are probably fairly high.
