Some very good suggestions here.  If only the government would take advice and make changes now, not years down the road (sorry).

Roundabouts, thumbs up!

Yearly tests for over 70s, big thumbs up!!

Posted in: Japanese teacher punches high school boy in face; social media on his side See in context

.All teachers know that physical discipline to a student is against school rules, those rules that apply to the staff.  He knew this but, even in his anger, chose to escalate the situation.  We all must adhere to the same rules of conduct.  This is not a point of negotiation.  Taking the boy to the staffroom and including other teachers would have been the right action.  We all filled out the bullying/violence questionnaires and things have changed somewhat since then.

The boy is clearly out of order and deserved discipline, not violence.  The teacher will loose his job.  Prison time seems harsh, a suspended sentence would suffice.

It will never catch on in Japan.  Just being at work is the norn, even when there is sweet fanny adams to do.  Sleeping at your desk is a common teacher activity.  I prefer Youtube or a good book, but you didn't hear me say that!

Impossible to comment on this as the details are so vague.  I expect they will find the truth either way.

'Amidst a busy party on a bus' - As opposed to a bus party on a train...?

Kudos to Shiseido for obviously not being run by old farts stuck in the Edo era.

Sad to say, it won't change those that still do it.  Just like the parents who buckle-up but let their toddlers stand between the front seats in the middle of the car  waiting to smash their head into the windscreen when the crash happens.

Well done, Naomi.

Williams should publicly apologise for her petulant behaviour.  Reminiscent of McEnroe's tantrums we were all up in arms about at the time.

This is power harassment, the term for managers ( or ones with senior positions) bullying others.  There is no excuse for what they reportedly did.

Posted in: Trump accuses critics of 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' as Putin summit fallout continues See in context

"No"...'Meaning no, and whatever I was thinking at the time, didn't I say what I was thinking?  I usually do, oh well...'

Some might think Trump was being vague on purpose so that he could change the meaning later to suit the media reaction, fake news or not.  But that credits him with far too much intelligence.

When I want to teach my high school students about vagueness and generalising I often quote Trump as a prime example.  It seems to come naturally to him.

Posted in: Kane scores hat-trick in England's 6-1 rout of Panama See in context

Firstly, I confess I'm not a soccer fan, though I did watch the Japan vs Colombia game.  The first half of the England game was good, entertaining even.  Buy I soon got tired of the second half.  It often seemed that some England players didn't want the ball and passed it as soon as they could, backwards mostly. This is probably a standard soccer technique, designed to tire and infuriate the other team, but it had the same effect on me.

It appeared that the Panama team had much more possession in the 2nd half, even though they are such a lower level team by comparison.  Their manager said as much.  Seemed as if England thought they'd done enough.

I'm afraid I was expecting more from our team, but this morning's Telegraph piece congratulated them because they weren't embarrassingly pathetic.  I shall lower my expectations and try to raise my hopes as well.

Still, glad we are through!

Posted in: Japanese bemused by Trump bowling ball car test claim See in context

Trump making up his own 'fake news'.  Just a tad hypocrytical?

This borders on racism.  Making your own country the victims of another country, stamping on others to raise yourself up.

Joke?  Was the punchline 'It's horrible, the way we're treated. It's horrible'?  Doesn't sound like a joke to me.

Shades of Aso and putting your foot in it.

In the end, Trump is, again, giving negative, derogatory comments about other countries based on...well, nothing really.

John Cage (Ally McBeal) would have one word... 'Please!'

Oh, for the days when there was less predictability and drivers were the focus not the car developments.  A two car race?  That doesn't sound like dramatic racing.

Let's hope the Mercs won't dominate this year and the qualifying won't dictate who wins the races.

Hate the phrase 'Pole to win'.

Posted in: U.S. fighter jet dumps fuel tanks into Aomori lake after engine fire See in context

One would think that fuel tanks that are dumped would be automatically sealed so that if the tanks don't break on impact no fuel would escape.  Preventing spilage is not that difficult.  Then, no rist of environmental damage would need to be assessed.

Doesn't that sound like a standard feature?

Posted in: Student survivors slam Trump's comments that FBI missed signs on Florida shooting due to Russia probe See in context

Big surprise, Trump makes this about himself as the victim.  No wonder the people close to the shooting are angry at his selfish comments.  I'm afraid Trump can't help saying what he really thinks,  which always centres around himself.

"Let's make 'ME' great (again)."  That's what we are all thinking he really means!

Let's show sympathy for the families of the victims!

Also, let's focus on the lack of 'gun control' that has made it possible for pretty much anyone in the US to hold a gun.

In Japan, the reality is that school children/students are safe so we never even think about this except as a sad problem in America.

I think many Brits see the Trump news stories and feel that little bit better about Theresa May as PM.  "Well, at least..."  Anyone else think so?  Not much positive about Brexit but far less negative than the continuous mess Trump is making of the US and his 'foreign' policies.

I keep thinking of the TV drama Scorpion and how often they quote their own IQs so we don't forget.
