If the guy had been talking about suicide this is a failure on the part of anyone who heard it and did nothing. Such a waste.

I am fine with this. If you wait until after something happens to do something you are too late. Also there was a terrorist attack on the Tokyo Subway years back. I guess some people have forgotten.

I wouls seriously like to know how in 2018 'contracts' like this are acceptable or even legal. The whole 'idol' culture is beyond stupid.

Zachary, cheating may be morally reprehensible but it does not justify murder. Also define common, tons of married Japanese men use "health services" which is just paid adultery and they manage not to be murdered.

Utorsa destruction and lack of respect for private property are not part of Amercian cilture as you put it. Peopke doing things like that should be hadled appropriately by law enforcement. But as I saw in the news last night they were content to let the revelers be unless sonething really serious was happening.

Serrano, the majority of the death toll is Okinawan civilians. Almost double the combined military fatalities were civilians deaths. 149,193 Civilians perished.

Seriously some of you guys are saying he should have been more restrained? He shot a guy that was cutting him up! The police man did exactly what he should have.

They drive licensed go-karts occasionally on the city streets here as well. I always thought it was an accident waiting to happen as they sit so low and are hard for drivers to see.

@nakanoguy01 In general it is a politically motivated action to show that "something" is being done coupled with mandatory classes for military and DoD civilian personnel about proper alcohol use etc. A curtailment of all off base activity and reflection on being good ambassadors to the troops, families etc. In the end though people make mistakes and bad decisions with or without rules and things will occur despite the best efforts to prevent them. There is always someone somewhere who thinks the rules don't apply to them and will make the bad choice. That goes for everyone not just the military.

As much as I defend the military presence in Japan by the USA, there is no excuse for this kind of behavior and to make things worse a life was lost and it was done while on duty.

This man is a disgusting and evil person. There is no forgiveness for this.

Kim characterized Trump's speech to the world body as "mentally deranged behavior."
Well if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black.
And after the NY Post article that came out today from the NK defector Kim has only shown the depths of his depravity and corruption.

A few thoughts. Why risk turning 1 dangerous falling object into 2? Also there is much to be said about not tipping your hand when it comes to capability. NK is trying to provoke everyone else into doing something so that they can claim to be the victim. NK is not going to do anything that puts Kim's regime at risk. All of this saber rattling is just a petulant child trying to gain the attention of the world. I agree that their missile and Nuclear Weapons programs need to be ended but how to accomplish it without a full scale war is the tricky part.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said his country is nearing its goal of "equilibrium" in military force with the United States
With the US military in 1955 maybe.

Why the continuous refusal by the us to sign an official peace treaty?
The armistice was signed by the UN not the USA.
North Korea has announced that it will no longer abide by the armistice at least 6 times, in the years 1994, 1996, 2003, 2006, 2009, and 2013.
North Korea largely forgets the UN took action against them in the Korean War not the USA unilaterally. Looks like most of the rest of the world forgets this too. They also forget that the only reason there is a North Korea today is because of Chinese intervention after they were pushed back to China. Their bluster is mostly aimed at the US because it is an easy target for their hatred and propaganda and because the USA backs South Korea.

I know a little gossip. USA has nukes in Japan. But a friend of mine visited a Japanese base and was shown Japanese nukes.
Yeah that seems legit, they let you "friend" just waltz into a base and see the "nukes"

I am all about stopping the NK threats and rhetoric, but I fail to see how adding more nukes to the region helps anyone out.

Indeed Luca for quite a while now. 5 Years I believe.

You are glossing over a huge amount of details there and making a comparison where there is none to be made. NK notified no one. NK has actively been promising to destroy the US and its allies. What would one conclude is the purpose of the launch when literally a couple weeks back NK was promising to attack Guam. I swear some people will be content to sit back and wait until their homes are on fire until they think any action is necessary or warnings should not be heeded.

VoiceofOkinawa you will have a hard time selling reduced military footprint the same day a foreign country shot a missile over Japan. Those bases have a lot to do with response to a possible conflict with NK and less US military in Japan would be absolutely welcomed by NK.

When the Soviet Union attempted to put nuclear missiles in Cuba the American reaction brought the world to the brink of war.
