Posted in: Drop in China's new coronavirus cases; none in Hubei for sixth day See in context

Gary, 1. The Spanish Flu was over 100 years ago, long before nearly any of the mechanisms were in place that allow quick and easy communications as is the case today not to mention a world war had just ended and the the planet was just starting to recover. 2. The source of the Spanish Flu is widely debated and no source is known for certain with North America, Europe and China, also on the list of possible starting zones for that Flu as well. 3. China has actively suppressed information about this virus from the beginning, its is likely that even after they have been reporting numbers that these are a fiction due to the criteria they have formed to say who has the a "confirmed case" So yes I think they do have some responsibility because of the way it was handled from the start there.

Basically for every case there is now assume they will each make 3 more and so on and so until some actually preventive action happens. This is just the beginning and the lack of action earlier is going to be paid in lots of lost lives later.

I am fine with this. If you wait until after something happens to do something you are too late. Also there was a terrorist attack on the Tokyo Subway years back. I guess some people have forgotten.

Zachary, cheating may be morally reprehensible but it does not justify murder. Also define common, tons of married Japanese men use "health services" which is just paid adultery and they manage not to be murdered.

Utorsa destruction and lack of respect for private property are not part of Amercian cilture as you put it. Peopke doing things like that should be hadled appropriately by law enforcement. But as I saw in the news last night they were content to let the revelers be unless sonething really serious was happening.

@nakanoguy01 In general it is a politically motivated action to show that "something" is being done coupled with mandatory classes for military and DoD civilian personnel about proper alcohol use etc. A curtailment of all off base activity and reflection on being good ambassadors to the troops, families etc. In the end though people make mistakes and bad decisions with or without rules and things will occur despite the best efforts to prevent them. There is always someone somewhere who thinks the rules don't apply to them and will make the bad choice. That goes for everyone not just the military.

A few thoughts. Why risk turning 1 dangerous falling object into 2? Also there is much to be said about not tipping your hand when it comes to capability. NK is trying to provoke everyone else into doing something so that they can claim to be the victim. NK is not going to do anything that puts Kim's regime at risk. All of this saber rattling is just a petulant child trying to gain the attention of the world. I agree that their missile and Nuclear Weapons programs need to be ended but how to accomplish it without a full scale war is the tricky part.

Wallace Fred

Why the continuous refusal by the us to sign an official peace treaty?

The armistice was signed by the UN not the USA.

North Korea has announced that it will no longer abide by the armistice at least 6 times, in the years 1994, 1996, 2003, 2006, 2009, and 2013.

North Korea largely forgets the UN took action against them in the Korean War not the USA unilaterally. Looks like most of the rest of the world forgets this too. They also forget that the only reason there is a North Korea today is because of Chinese intervention after they were pushed back to China. Their bluster is mostly aimed at the US because it is an easy target for their hatred and propaganda and because the USA backs South Korea.
