@Ronald Hassem I am curious to know how the Kim family's oppression of North Korea and breaking every agreement they have ever made is the "Americans" fault? If you want to point the finger at anyone it should be China. The only reason there is a North Korea is directly as a result of their involvement in the Korean War.

@ Louis, The difference is that cows and pigs etc were bred and engineered over time to be food animals. That is a lot different than a wild Dolphin that is being killed simply for a "tradition" that has no place in the current age in a 1st world nation.

There is nothing wrong with honoring the dead of wars, but what is pictured above seems to be scenes reminiscent of Confederate Civil War re-enactment people in the states who can't let go of the past.

choiwaruoyaji, that does really work in the middle east. Tell me in Syria what is left for them to go home to? The man in this story was from turkey whose solution not so long ago was to march a million undesirables into the desert and to their deaths simply because they were Christians. A man with a hoe can do little against those with missiles and machine guns.

Veejay, If you recall the Christians launched the crusades to retake the Holy Land back in the day and did a lot of indiscriminate killing. More recently in what used to be Yugoslavia, Both Christians and Muslims killed a ton of people in "ethnic cleansing" I personally am not religious in anyway but I am not going to look down on those who are. When we start putting large general labels on groups of people just because of their membership in a faith or group trouble is brewing. Furthermore ISIS, AL Qaeda etc are hardly representative of the larger Islamic Faith they are just splinter groups that commit enough atrocity give make the billion other Muslims look bad in the eyes of some.

34% of 97 men aged 22 to 39 comes to what--32 men? And we're supposed to extrapolate from that tiny sample that over a third of Japanese men have this problem??

Also who only interviews 97 people? I guess that is all that answered their crappy survey.

You know that forced sterilization was popular in Nazi Germany for un-desirables and criminals. I think they should get way more jail time but the other option is disgusting and takes us back somewhere that we should never go.

Posted in: Anti-U.S. base demonstrators march in Tokyo See in context

That's not the point randomnator. Japan is a democracy. And if the majority of people say that they don't want the bases then the bases should go. Whether or not its good for the country is irrelevant. I mean, look at the PM. He's not good for the country, but he did get voted in. That's democracy. You let the people decide. What they chose, whether its good for Japan or not, is beside the point

True it is a democracy, but does the majority say that? 100 people protesting in Tokyo hardly constitutes a majority. If they want the bases done then they should vote that way. Far too often in this issue as well as others people claim what actually is the minority opinion is the majority opinion simply because the minority is the loudest. I am not saying that is the case here but still I wonder want the actually numbers say.

There is no need to apologize for anything nor should Japan have to apologize to Korea or China for the actions of people that were made 70 plus years ago by people that are not even alive anymore. We can respect and sympathize with the survivors and learn from the mistakes of the past so they are not repeated. But an apology is not warranted nor should it be given. If Obama does he is a fool.

RSA tokens can vastly increase the security of any account you have when coupled with username/passwords. They are still limited in their application but are beginning to catch on to wider use. If you have an account anywhere that can get one I would highly recommend getting it. Most can be loaded as an app on you smart phone with minimal effort.

bullfighter - I have to disagree just on Nagasaki's local news last night they were talking about how the quake is already causing people to cancel vacation plans to the region. With golden week right around the corner there is going to be a lot of money lost due to this disaster, not to mention the hits to the island as a whole as earthquake fear prevents people from visiting.

Both gogogo and klausdorth, As a resident of Kyushu, I can tell you both that the problem is that there is very little topsoil here at least in the more mountainous areas. At my own house I can only dig about a foot deep before I am hitting solid rock. Deep rooted trees would not help in these situations nor it this a man made problem. It is simple geology.

bjohnson23 What is wrong with the foreigners who want to change Japan and make us think our ways are like theirs. This is a domestic issue and the teacher had no right to interfere with parental rights.

That type of thinking leads to the nearly weekly cases we see of murder of children by parents in the news in this country. Maybe they should take a lesson from the "foreigners" and protect children instead of treating them like a burden that can be punched, kicked, choked, slashed, stabbed, locked in a rabbit cage, thrown in the garbage, etc etc that we see here far too often. The teacher was doing her job and if you fail to realize then there is a huge problem.
