Posted in: Girl slashed while riding bicycle in Yamagata See in context

Why would you think she did anything? Most likely just some nutjob who wanted to scar a girl.

Nothing at all, just everyone seems to jump on the "Japan is full of nutters" band wagon.

I was just offering up another possibility, like she rode on the road with out looking and it ticked this guy off, then she swore and kept riding, so he is giving her an extreme lesson in manners.

I saw a girl once ride past a car and her handle bars clipped and scratched a cars mirror, and she just kept on riding. The owner of the car had to chase the girl in her car and scream at her till she gave up all her personal info. This article could have been a similar scenario. Dont you think?

I wonder what she did to cause him to chase her?

According to eyewitnesses, the man was in his early 20s, about 170-175 cms tall and was wearing a light-colored hat

I wonder if anyone bothered to get his licence plate?

Well one photo you can sell for around $5000 to the right mag or paper, so it's not really a bad investment for the photographer considering the number of papers and mags that will want a copy

From my understanding there are enough whales to allow a few to be "researched".

Yes we should try protect whales, but we should also use our money and resources to feed our own homeless and disadvantaged people in our own countries.

Why there is so much media, money and hatred built up in this topic is beyond me.

Posted in: What should the U.S. military brass and/or Japanese authorities do to reduce the number of crimes committed by U.S. military personnel in Japan? See in context

Your figures from The US Military news paper, do you think they could be biased and a little kind to the Military??? Even if we look at those figures provided, they show 1 crime every week, and 1 Heinous crime every month! That is way to many! Anyway, remember these guys have guns and are trained to kill people. They need scrutiny and a much lower threshold than the locals. To answer the question. It needs to be addressed from the top down. (see; Milgram Experiment) For any crime, the punishment must go all the way up. Perhaps a solution is they can make R&R's in a totally different location or country, a night time curfew, as mentioned before. Better alcohol abuse training. All the marines I know drink hard core, and say its part of being a marine. You do the maths!

Sanctions don't work for all dictators. See ww2 if you don't beleive me. His people can't rebel against him, they can only suffer from sanctions which will bread more hatred and feed the fuel for Kim. Action needs to be taken.

Perhaps the husband knew and made her destroy the baby? Could be why they are devorced but still living together. They could have also told the son the baby was adopted.

I know I'm speculating, but no where does it say she hid and murded the baby!

It doesn't seem like an argument, as the wound is in the stomach. Most people in a fight use an up to down slash. Most gangs know the stomach is an incredibly painful way to die, especially the Yaks. But it normally takes a long time to die this way, he should have been able to find help (no phone or neighhbours?) So he was possibly very badly wounded in the stomach causing external bleeding and a quicker death. To me it sounds deliberate and profesional and with malice.

Posted in: Why is groping so prevalent on trains in Japan? Anyone care to hazard a guess as to the psychological reasons on why men grope? See in context

Because they can get away with it. Girls should learn how to throw a quick jab or a swift knee.

Because the education of Men is behind the rest of the world.

Plus studies show that most people if they can get away with a crime, will commit it.

Posted in: Which side do you think looks more in the wrong following Wednesday's clash between Sea Shepherd and Japanese whalers? See in context

Both are at fault

Both are guilty of infractions against International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 (COLREGS)

The Ady Gil should never have parked a boat so close to the direction of another vessel. Any boat can easily be pushed by the sea a few degrees to cause a collision.

The Japanese vessel wether pushed by the sea or deliberately, also did not try to avoid collision.

This makes them both responsible for the collision. I wonder who has the best Lawyers though!

Both. Both are using aggressive tactics at sea. But basically Japan won as the Ady is wasted

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Regulations_for_Preventing_Collisions_at_Sea

(a) Nothing in these Rules shall exonerate any vessel, or the owner, master or crew thereof, from the consequences of any neglect to comply with these Rules or of the neglect of any precaution which may be required by the ordinary practice of seamen, or by the special circumstances of the case.
