@garypen

If they are being imported to the US, I had never seen one on the street in my decades of driving and travel there. No wonder, as I could not picture them passing most states' inspection procedures. Perhaps they are being used in non-public or restricted capacities?

> Kei's may be fine for local roads - shopping, picking the spouse up at the station, misc. errands and such. But, they do not belong on expressways or any high-speed thoroughfares.

Good posts. I was just going to ask if there are any crash tests done to these vehicles.

What are the standards?

Those masks do nothing to stop you from touching a door handle and then later scratching your nose, ears or eyes. People forget and do this all the time, it's human nature. Very few people actually wash their hands enough and properly. This virus will spread and it will spread far and wide if restrictions aren't put in place.

Indeed. Whatever benefits wearing a mask brings, it cannot outweigh a person's bad hygiene habits.

I always say "ありがとう" to shop staff after a purchase. It would feel weird just taking the change and receipt, then just silently hurrying away.

I'm the same way.

@sumikonagoya

Here is some news about Ghosn new home:

After months of near-constant protests, Lebanon is on fire. Rising tensions over the country’s deteriorating economy, coupled with an unhurried political class, have prompted protesters to attack Lebanese banks and clash with security forces in Beirut.

That's right enjoy the evenings with your wife and family.

LOL

I'm sure he STILL prefers to be in Lebanon than in Japan.

"Mr Ghosn spent 130 days in detention and was questioned in total on 70 of those days. So 60 days without questioning," said Saito. "On average, he was questioned for less than four hours per day."

Questioned on 70 out of the 130 days, "less than four hours per day".

I'm pretty sure the prosecutors found all that questioning quite fruitful.

The trial of the two men and Nissan, which is also facing the same charge, is due to begin in 2021. It was unclear whether the schedule would be updated after Ghosn's escape.

The prosecutors have such a "Slam Dunk" case, that it will take another whole year of preparation.

Posted in: 'Hostage justice?' Japan fights back with an internet FAQ See in context

SaikoPhyscoToday:

I hate to say it.... but it definitely affects the way I handle dealing with things in Public in Japan. I go out of my way to make sure that everything I do cannot be construed as being illegal. On dark sidewalks at night if there is a Female walking nearby.... I do not try to pass her, since I walk pretty quickly, I wait until a streetlight or until she turns to go elsewhere. I am extra careful.... why? Because I never, ever want to deal with the Japanese "Justice", system. It is totally stacked against everyone and possibly more so foreigners.

I hear ya..

I just wonder what happened to the company who hired them to work in cosmetics? Aren't they required to check?

Yes, they are supposed to check, but just like what happens in the U.S., many of these companies knowingly hire individuals who are not properly documented, or undocumented all together. They turn a blind eye.

Hopefully the "cosmetic manufacturing company" that hired them will get punished as well. There's no excuse for employers to not properly vetting their prospective employees.
