Also the wife tells me in the past the Japanese have been known to throw water on returning players at the airport if they lose. I am looking into it now. I guess this happened after the last world cup. As we argued I thought it seems quite childish and we have agreed jokingly its their mentality vs mine. I do recall in 2006 when the Aussies beat the Japanese I did not see one Japanese jersey the next day... It was like the Cup disappeared. I'll email the Times and see if they will do a story on this.... You know, when the Red Sox lose... you still see all of Boston sporting the B hat with pride...

FYI to the masses... The US is a multi sport lover... Football is first then hoops and baseball is third with hockey following after... WBC I have read was created and dreamed up by the Asians to give their national sport a kick and feel of the world cup. A pride thing. To be honest if you did put the US best's line up and did it world series style things would come out different. As Lasorda said last week... Why not put the winner of the Japanese regular season against the World Series winner and call it the real World Series?... Anyhow it made the wife happy and I am happy for Japan.

I will always stand by my "looking for the thumbs up" theory here. As in the Tokyo stab spree he got the thumbs down at work and socially. Yep, the thumbs up society and in a way gaijin have it much easier as we were not raised with the group mentality and a must be accepted place. Best recovery for her.... and the simple fact she was an old lady is sad.

As my Japanese wife says... Now with the recession the Japanese will take advantage of their mind your own business culture...and carrying around over a grand is for mobsters, use the bank...

I dig it. I also would like to join them. The guys here suck in so many ways. My wife was one of these loners and it took a long time to unlock. However we have a great son and she is now married to him.... Personally I think the Japanese have become disconnected in many ways because of the phone and internet.... the comment above mine is spot on.

"Many of them, especially younger ones, want to appear on TV even if they are not paid.” that pretty much sums up the Japanese...always looking for approval.

Nice little write up and read another story in Asahi. Booze is big in the Far East and that will never change. Asahi even foot the bill for the WBC and 90% of the commercials was beer, beer and some celeb promoting it. As for me in Osaka and on the train from 10-11PM...is a sight. My guess half may be hardened alcoholics and yours truly wished he could stop weekend drinks. What I could never figure out... do they actually get in the bath wasted at night? Anyway, most of the LDP are hard boozers and smokers and I really see no change in the alcohol scene until these guys are out the door. They should stop selling the piss at 12AM like some US states but even I made a beer run at 2AM like 50 times. To me.. many Japanese dont work hard, they drink hard and thats what makes their famous 12 hour day with the fag breaks as a bonus. Maybe it would be good if men rushed home and took a magic puff and hanged with the fam rather than hit the daily bar with the same people you work with day in and day out for 25 yrs.....? As for us yanks...we even make movies of stoners...Pineapple Express I guess wont show here, lol? I would also love to know the daily sales number of alcohol for one day here? In the end I still love beer and if I would love Phelps to stop by with his bong.

Very unjapanese act and they will be punished very Japanese style. Disturbing Wa but only a suspended sentence and they will find another childish act to take up their loser time. Most other countries would grind you down and toss you in prison for a few but nothing but a bow to the Dad and kid with super gomen. I give it 50/50 he tosses himself instead of the H20 next time.

OK... Out of the thousands and thousands of 20 yr old models in this country.. does anyone know: A) How much do they get paid for a gig like this? B) How long do their careers last?

and the only bit I know is the greasy agency takes a lot and this is their only stepping stone to marriage and money.
