The current wave of infections would soon be over if people stopped taking PCR tests. Remember what Dr Kary Mullis, the scientist who developed the PCR testing, used to say: "The PCR tests should never be used to diagnose disease."

Smallpox vaccines are also effective against monkeypox and the efficacy is supposed to last for decades. All Japanese aged 48 and over got pox jabs when they were children. If you’re under age 48, you may have to get vaccines but they are attenuated live vaccines and much safer and more reliable than mRNA Covid vaccines.

Posted in: Abe's accused assassin to undergo psychiatric evaluation until Nov 29: media See in context

People have short memories. The government wants to put off Yamagami’s trial until after Abe’s state funeral is successfully over and most people have forgotten about the former PM’s assassination. Then they will put him on trial and sentence him to death or life in prison and by then hardly anyone remembers what happened on July 8, 2022.

I think it’s standard policy that anyone who killed the insured is not entitled to the insurance money. It’s not so hard to picture ¥150 million. It’s just 150 bundles of a hundred ¥10,000 bank notes . You can carry them in a backpack.

Posted in: Japan to hold state funeral for Abe in autumn See in context

For those of us who lived under the 8 years of Abe's premiership, he is remembered as the PM who raised the consumption tax twice, pursued a tight fiscal policy in a deflating economy, consistently lying in the Diet, bought overpriced and defective US-made weapons just to please Mr Trump, and the list goes on and on. He hardly deserves a full state-funded state funeral.

Don’t pay too much attention to those international ranking lists. As a general rule, the narrower the gender gap, the sucker a society is. Japan is still the healthiest of the G7 countries as witnessed by a very small number of out-of-wedlock children.
