Did anybody actually read the article? It says he fell from 2nd floor down to the second floor basement. Also it states he fell 12 meters which is exactly the same 4 floor distance.

Frungy: The idea that "sweden is making it work without immigrants" is just plain ridiculous.

Yes, Sweden has been taking plenty of muslim refugees. And now they have many things to show for it, like the no-go zones for police in many of their bigger cities. They must feel very happy, just like in Paris!

Probie: "No, it's true love. I'll try and get my wife to tape my blade. Toe to heel, and waxed! Although if she does it from heel to toe, she'll have to buy me "Makeup Flowers"."

No wonder you do not get the whole romance thing, you are doing it all wrong.

It must be from heel to toe!

109 million was the retail value, I wonder if he got even half of that from the pawn shop.

Posted in: Refereeing standards in spotlight again at Asian World Cup qualifiers See in context

It all comes down to the fact that the referees in the Asian qualifiers come from other Asian countries. Outside Austria, Japan and South Korea it seems the refs barely know the rules, more less how to apply them.

The ref in AU-JP game was a joke and both teams suffered from this. This can be fixed only by more training (slow) or bringing the refs from Europe (politically incorrect).

I do not believe nobody is saying this is good news but 12 tons is about the same amount that fits to a small single-tank truck. Sorry but I refuse to declare the whole island of Japan dead just yet.

There may or may not be a big one in Tokyo soon but as long as you continue to predict there will be one long enough you will get it right! Or you get retired which ever comes first!

Yep, who cares for lung cancer, acid rain, climate change or the hundreds of deaths in coal mines every year if we just get rid of the evil nuclear power.

Posted in: Foreign firms feel sidelined in post-quake rebuilding See in context

I am actually blaming both parties here. We who live in Japan know very well the inflexible attitude the government officials often take but I would not let all the foreign companies off the hook either.

First "provide the tender preferably in Japanese". I see this as a standard practice in any country to ask for the tender in their own language, nothing especially dramatic here.

Secondly these companies where not trying to just offer assistance as they themselves so nicely put it but to make money in entering the Japanese market. No, there is nothing wrong about in my opinion but do not try to picture yourselves holier than the pope.

Posted in: Chugoku Electric shuts Shimane No. 2 reactor, leaving Japan with only 3 reactors online See in context

Coal mining kills more people every year than nuclear accidents have ever done and as an added bonus we get to breath all those particles from burning the coal.

But we will be fine without nuclear plants as soon as all the people who oppose nuclear energy cut their electricity usage by half.

Posted in: The importance of blood type in Japanese culture See in context

The article starts by saying it is good idea to know your blood type. The writer then promptly fails to give a single explanation why.

As cleo said if you need urgent blood transfer you are not in a state to tell it to the doc even if you know it and moreover they will test it anyway.

This is exactly same than horoscopes in west. If asked I always tell my sign is Omega and blood type C.

"Well, the government officials get away with deep bows and several "gommenasai" used in their speeches."

I have trouble trying to remember the last time a government official has been in a gun fight with the cops.

Posted in: Ozawa: Nothing unusual about keeping Y400 mil in cash at home See in context

I used to keep similar amounts of money at my home too but it got too bothersome as I had to move those piles out of the genkan every time someone was on the door. Not because I was worried they stole it, but because I could not get the door opened otherwise. Then again maybe he has a bigger house than I do?

Still with the interest rates the banks are paying you cannot blame the guy keeping it at home!

Posted in: Changes coming to foreign registration, visa system See in context

Pukey2: I read this so that you need to go to register your change of address in the ward office as before. Just that the form you fill will go to the Ministry of Justice from there.

I am also happy to understand from the pages that the "acting as a spouse" does not mean what it sounds like, but just that you are actually living together and not separated and staying married only in paper to keep your visa. Would be totally uncool not to get any for six months and then be deported because of that ;).

Posted in: The case of Abubakar Awudu Suraj: A PR nightmare of Japan’s own making See in context

For everyone who is worried about having the same happen to him/her the solution to the problem is simple: do not break the law and if you do and get caught do not fight the police.

Now that was not too difficult, was it?

It does not matter what is the number in the paper. In 20 to 30 years they will not have enough money to pay the pensions anyway. Japan is not alone in this, they will just be one of the first ones to realize the fact.

I am in Oota-ku too and this is by far the biggest that has hit us in Tokyo in the last 10 years or so.

Still a delivery guy from a supermarket brough us our order. He had dropped the eggs and was worried that some are broken but we told him not to worry. He wanted to bring us new ones still today! :)

Tamagawa seems to have swolled quite big but that was to be expected. I just hope the trees behind us will not decide to fall down...
