Posted in: Shibuya braces for more Halloween chaos after wild weekend See in context

But they need to get that trick or treat thing down. In Hachioji, the kids spend most of the time walking to predetermined shops, then waiting in line in hopes of getting one piece of candy or other small treat. One place I observed directly was handing out tiny cubes of what looked like pound cake that they had hand cut, but there was a long line around the corner. If I waited in a long line and then got to the front and realized that's what I was waiting for it I'd have been pissed. And my granddaughter complained that at some places they waited in line, got to the front, and the treats had run out. So they had waited for nothing.

I always thought it a bit of a shame that Japan assimilated this part of American culture so readily

It's not the wine itself that makes it so exciting for so many people in Japan, it's that they really just like to say "Beaujolais Nouveau" as often as possible because it makes him feel cultured and Elite

@ yubaru - he was the angry boyfriend, she tried to get away, he jumped on a moving car to try to prevent her escape. If he chose to stay on the car after being given several chances, the onus is on him. Her actions are completely Justified if she was in fear for her safety. If She just stopped the car, how do you know he would not jump off, smash the window, and stab her (for example).

@ dbsaiya - you may want to step down off that high horse. As was pointed out earlier, he helped to finance the very Terror and destruction that he wanted to report on. So how many people will die so that he could get a Nobel Prize?

If he jumped on the hood of a moving car then he's assuming the risk it's not like she ran him down

@ Yubaru - so quick to judge when you weren't in her shoes you don't know how violent he was or what he would have done if she just sat there she gave him chances to get off and he wouldn't

If he wrote a book just because he went to Iraq as a cook, you can imagine what he's planning now, books, movie deals, tours etc. He's thinking about the cash. I agree that he should make a public apology and pay back the ransom. Why the hell should my tax dollars be used to help pay for his reckless adventurism.

Posted in: Foreign divorced parents fight in vain for child custody in Japan See in context

Of there are many reasons why the wife would leave the husband and take the kids. But in some of those cases, there was never any love in a relationship and the husband was merely an unwitting sperm donor for the wife. I have a friend and maybe he'll read this who had two angelic blond-haired, blue-eyed, daughters with his J wife. One day she just up and said she wasn't interested in sex anymore and told him to go get a girlfriend.
