Posted in: Do you think space exploration is a waste of money? See in context

No, we are all using technology every day that was first developed for space exploration. Not only will we as a species get a better understanding of the universe, but we will also get some more useful tech in the process. Also, if we figure out how to successfully mine asteroids we'd be rich.

I am against changing it.

Why do we need to cater to everybody? Cultural homogenization? No thank you.

Merry Christmas everybody.

If you don't feel it, no need to feel bad about it. If you wish me happy hanuka or whatever I don't get in your face, its cool, thanks for wishing me a good time.

To be honest, who in their right mind and with some knowledge about the subject buys a computer from Toshiba or Fujitsu?

I mean, no wonder they are making losses. Toshiba products in generall are bad in my opinion but Fujitsu computers and laptops are something I don't even tough with a tongue. My wife had a fujitsu phone. Overheated all the time. I have to use a Fujitsu laptop at work. It's not fun.

My advice: Stick to what you are good at instead of trying to make a profit in all categories.

Posted in: How do you feel about legalizing some drugs? If you are for it, which drugs do you think should be legalized and which ones shouldn't be? See in context

Now if you think about Marijuana, careful. Yes, the consumption of Marijuana does not cause any direct deaths, and all the studies trying to link mental health development and consumption of Marijuana have not brought forth any decisive evidence, but many people smoke Marijuana together with Tobacco, kinda making the point of a "healthier" drug useless.

If drugs are legalized, I feel that only soft drugs should be. Nothing you have to inject or something. And the same rules that apply to alcohol should apply. Not under 18 (or 20 or 21 depending on where you live), no driving under the influence and no using in public places.

I find that much better than treating people like evil criminals for having a little Marijuana on them, which literally does not hurt anybody not even themselves.

Unfortunately we live in times where laws are in place to force a certain morality on us instead of protecting the people and their rights.

Posted in: Organizations tackle problem of childhood hunger in Japan See in context

While I applaud the movement, I don't see how a 300 Yen meal helps poor children. I mean, maybe I am missing some important point here but I can eat healthy for 300 yen without the help of any organisation. The 100 yen discount is great, though I would find this much better if they found some sponsors who would be willing to pay for kids meals. If they only do it once a month then it can't be too much money to raise. I'd gladly throw in a few thousand yen a month to feed some hungry mouths.

Also once a month is a good start but hardly enough. I hope they can find support to make the project bigger.

Yes, Jeff, in Europe we get killed by religious radicals.

In the US we get killed by Americans.

My daughter will become one year old this month. These news used to disgust me but having your own child completely changes these feelings to a deep sadness. That poor girl. None of whatever moved the person who left her there was her fault. I believe it is time for a nationwide campaign against the murder and abandoning of children. People need to understand that they don't have to ruin their childrens lives just because they can't get their own s**t together... Why do we treat life like that.

Maybe state supported abortion would have prevented an unwanted child?

What happened in this case? Mother left her? Father forced her? If they ever get to experience parenthood they might understand and feel guilty for the rest of their lives.

If they get caught, I believe they should spend the rest of their lives in a cell.

Haha, this is so typical. Why didn't they just use a small cartoon, that would eliminate the need for translation, given the bad record of English language signs in Japan.

I mean, most Japanese urinals hang so low I can't even step closer otherwise I would not even be able to hit the right area. Also with them having the drain on the floor the splash is amazing. They should take some European urinals as an example, then they wouldn't need the signs.

Haaa Nemui I think the article stated this carelessly. It will take a while for Japanese carriers to make a version of this for their phones, if they make an upgrade at all.

Whatever you think of manga that depict this kind of stuff, i fear for what pedophiles might do if their last possibility to vent will be taken. Let them have their comics as long as no children get hurt. Sometimes you just gotta let it go, even if you don't like it.

What about the junior idols though? Will this be illegal, too? If not, I hope they think about that soon. Thats what really bothers me ever since I encountered it in Osaka.

I hope that they will put strict laws in place. Especially Japan can not afford to have less security for mothers.

But I wouldn't put my money on it. I have heard one foreigner telling me that his wife got fired as soon as she told that she was pregnant. The clue? She was working for the Japanese Ministry of Justice. Go figure.

it will take a long time before companies and even political bodies give a damn about individuals.

What they're gonna do with it, is what makes me think.

Posted in: Do you think lowering the voting age to 18 in Japan is a good idea? See in context

I don't see why not, in other countries you are already legally an adult by the age of 18. Just because the official adult age is different doesn't mean they can't make informed decisions.

I think the participation will probably not be too much, seeing as how apathetic so many young people here seem to be.

Lowering the voting age is one thing but good education about the importance of voting etc has to be provided as well. Also people people should be educated about current politics.

As long as people don't understand what's wrong with their country and what must change to make it better and what they can do to make that happen, nothing will be accomplished, even if you lower the voting age.

I say 20 is too late to be considered adult anyway.

Posted in: Why do Japanese people peel fruit such as apples, pears, peaches, plums and even grapes, before eating them? See in context

I used to do it from the stem and wondered why my banana peels never looked like the ones in Mario Kart. Then I saw a monkey peel a banana and felt like I might as well learn from that and now I peel it from the head. As a bonus I get to throw the peel to get rid of anybody chasing me.

But seriosly, I never understood why you would leave the skin of a grape. It's so small and fits in your mouth whole. Just eat it. Also, the best way of eating an apple is just bite a chunk out of it hahaha

But to be honest most fruit in Japan even the expensive ones are not that tasty so maybe I just want to get the little extra.

All of your problems do not seem to be Androids fault. GPS strongly seems to be your phone makers fault. Also all of your other problems seem app related. Try using different apps. How about K9 mail for example. Or Quickpic gallery.

Are you using a japanese smartphone? They are inferior in almost any way especially preinstalled software. Android is very powerful but unfortunately it often gets crippled by providers. Japanese carriers are huge offenders.

I wonder why so many people claim that they are sure she must have noticed.

By that logic, the cashier must have noticed, too. Yet he hasn't, so there's a good chance she didn't, either. How often do you phase out while waiting for something to happen. It happens. It is known to happen.

Maybe she did notice. Maybe she didn't.

Claiming there is not way she wouldn't have noticed is just not very realistic.

Many people can't even afford Shinkansen tickets now, how is that going to end with this?
