I didn't know canoeing was such a cut-throat sport :)

Really? They think they can dictate what people do on their way to work and not on the premises of the company. Since it is not going to be enforced, I'd tell them to go get stuffed. There is too much interference in people's private lives by companies here.

"I strangled Hiraku and thought about killing myself, too, but I couldn't."

Why am I not surprised? You had the courage to attack someone weaker than you but then didn't have to courage to kill yourself. What a courageous person you are. Pathetic excuse for a human being.

Posted in: SoftBank: No final agreement on Uber See in context

Kaerimashita, I agree. If Uber or Softbank think the Japanese government is going to let Uber fully into Japan, they are fooling themselves, in my opinion. There are too many ojisan drivers who would vote against them in elections.

I don't see any difference between the two myself.

There is a big difference. Genocide was committed in Kosovo by the Serbs. Genocide never happened in Catalonia. That's the difference.

Posted in: You’re not really Japanese; you just look the part See in context

I don't want to think that that's the only reason, but, all of the comments I've received have been from men.

I thought so. After living in Japan for more than 20 years, if there is one thing I know is that, not all but many, Japanese men like to look down on women. They are also bullies, and the easiest target of their bullying is women. You make an even easier target being a women and a Japanese American. I have no respect for this type of person, and when I see it happen I call these cowards out to their face, in Japanese. They are usually quite shocked a man would say the things I say to them. Be strong, and just let their childishness run off your back.

Kristy, I'm curious... of the comments that were made to you, as written in your article, how many were made by men and how many by women?

Kanno was quoted by police as saying she abused her daughter because she wasn’t obedient.

Of course she isn't obedient. She's 2 years old for heaven's sake!! What is wrong with some people!!?

Posted in: Smartphone screen maker Japan Display to cut 30% of workforce See in context

The company was slow to enter the market for OLED screens,...

This is the problem with a lot of big Japanese companies. Too slow to adjust to changes in the market, and dislike of change in general.

That must be the oldest stain removal trick in the book. Soda water works on many stains, not just soy sauce.

Posted in: Political bickering puts bill to address passive smoking in limbo See in context

There must be a compromise that will work for everyone. People who don't smoke have the right to not have to breathe in second-hand smoke, and those who do smoke should have a space to kill themselves if they want to. All you have to do is mandate small highly ventilated smoking rooms in bars and restaurants. Make it part of the building code. If it isn't feasible to install such a room, then no smoking allowed.

Problem solved.

Anyone remember the Xing pyramid scheme that went belly up here in Japan? A lot of my friends lost money on that one and no one was prosecuted. This story certainly reminds me of that one.

@ Aly Rustom

Of course it doesn't make sense. However when you consider the level of cognitive dissonance and double standards of many in the Republican party, it all starts to make sense.
