The best food in Japan was in the 90s before the sales tax was raised from 5-8%. After that food companies really started cheapening and skimping on ingredients.

Women, stop all this! The labor market is tight. If not wearing high heels is important to you, make asking about the dress code a priority in your interview. After that you have a choice to make. Remember there can be negative consequences for doing the right thing.

One more to add. If you want to go further, you can make a running 'beware' list of those companies which require women to wear high heels.

Nemoto makes policy. You make choices.

Matsuya, you'll make money too off the franchising fees. Don't sound like you have a big generous heart when you have a self interest. while much of the risk and investment will be shifted to the foreigner.

As with anyone who wants to join a franchise. Matsuya is simply saying they’ll give foreigners equal opportunity and you have to spin a negative twist to it? I’m aware of the pitfalls and exploitive nature of franchises, but this is not about racism.

I never said it was racism. It's about a market which is overly saturated in which what is seen as growth is actually cannibalism. Matsuya is flashing this as an opportunity that it ain't. Who better to market this to than newly rivals who have the least information?

I hope Matsuya is willing to loan out money to foreign workers to help them get their feet off the ground. A descent loan from them would give me confidence.

If Japan really wanted to make an impact, they would create a standard that wouldn't allow companies to make products so easily throw-awayable. Some of you out there may not realize products are intentionally designed to break in say a one, two, or five-year period. Similar products designed back in the 1960s would last 20 or 30 years. Electric fans are a good example of this. They are made so cheaply today and end up on the garbage heap in no time.

Japanese Government, you're not really doing anything other than creating a false sense of accomplishment. You pull the strings and so have the means to make real policy change, but instead you choose to make as this article points out symbolic change.

That pretty much sums up what it is you do for you!

Most young Japanese have such a vague clue about the sins of their fathers' during Japanese Colonial times. What gets me is the number of down votes I'll get for stating a fact. This above statement is true! It is not an opinion. These down votes tell me Japan still hasn't found a way to process and deal with the past. What I read and hear is we paid them money, now let's forget about it. It would be nice if young people actually knew what they should be forgetting about.

Don't worry Japan, you'll get your money back. Think about all the young healthy foreigners you'll be bringing in and then kicking out after 5 years. I'm sure you'll have them paying into the system. We all know that statisically speaking, young people use the medical system much less than old. They won't really receive a return on their investment. When you weigh that with the few staying short term and not paying, you will be in the black.

We can also talk about the pension system. Last I heard foreigners could get most of their money back if they leave sometime around the third year, but you have a program where foreigners stay 5 years. How much of that pension will go to them? At the moment I'm sure it is none unless they are from a country which already has a treaty with Japan, but the countries you are plucking most of the workers from don't fall under this.

NHK also looks to gain a lot of money from people who won't get much out of their programming.

Not to say you should't do something about those skipping out on their hospital bills, but your reporting is not balanced at all.

Hey 7/11, Lawson's, Family Mart, and whomever else, just tell Uncle Abe all your employees will be given the title of manager, so they won't get any overtime. We'll call the new program 'volunteer time within our company-family'.

If that doesn't work, tell Uncle Abe you'll be using his new program, 720 hours OT per year per employee. If this doesn't work well either we'll just pay the extra 300k, it's peanuts.

If Japan doesn't move quickly, they will not only see brain drain from the countryside, but also the Metropolises. Those with the talent and enough proficiency in English will look for greener pastures. These upper talents are much harder to replace with someone who doesn't have the knack for the nuances of Japanese and mastery of Kanji. Beware Japan. You need to get serious about turning that corner.
