So the winner of America's got talent is a Japanese and the winner of Miss America contest is of India descent. Maybe US is exceptional.

No, it was about the best person won and in the case of AGT America voted for him. I don't give a crap where you come from. If you got it, you got it!

I remember seeing the prototype video "phones" many years ago and thinking how much it would cost in the future. Never imagined that it would be free and become a great tool for all who are able to use it. I was pleased to see that (so far) Microsoft did not begin charging for the basic service when they aquired it. Time will tell.

Mine is in the driving in slow in the passing lane. My friend and I call it the "squeeze" play. They move into the passing lane and when parallel with the car they were going to pass they match their speed and keep everyone else squeezed in behind them. Another poster on here once called the tailgating "death trains" and after reading it I saw them daily. It really looks as it they are towing or hooked like box cars on a train......insane!

Elbuda: You got that right and all the while never exceeding the speed limit. I child has died needlessly and still some posters choose to attack one another. We weren't there so we don't know (but can sure guess) how unprepared the staff was. From the writing it would SEEM that they did nothing more than call an ambulance and stood by. I'm no medical expert but I know that just about anything would have been better than standing there. See too much of that here. Dennis Bauer: That is exactly what I thought. Would have most likely prevented this whole thing.

I have had and still have discussions with my son about this sort of thing. I told him that rejection and breaking up are part of lifes journey and you must respect the wishes of someone who no longer wants to be a part of your life. Keep your head up, your dignity in tact and move on. Such a terrible thing to happen to this young lady.

One of the funniest men I have ever seen or heard. His humor was a bit over my head as a child but when I got older and "got it" I never stopped laughing!! A great man that made a generation laugh. They rarely make 'em like that now.

@tmarie Yes, it is good that there are still people that think of the needs of the children instead of the selfish vengence fueled reasoning in so many of these cases. I guess there is some sick pleasure in exercising control with the governments backing. My heart goes out to all who have and continue to experience this. Although my kids are now grown (21 and 23) we had a brief relationship about 10 years ago. They are now fully brainwashed into thinking that they only exist to care for her. No independent thoughts or desires for their own future. They are to this day told that me, my wife and their half brother are not good for them and that they need to stay with her. I love them and wish them all the best. I hope they will one day think for themselves.

@tmarie Yes, in my case it was the consulate in LA. When confronted about it the would only continuously repeat "she has rights too". Indeed she did I believe that this particular subject has a much better chance of being settled fairly outside than it EVER WILL in Japan.

@tmarie My ex actually told me that since she was Japanese she did not have to abide by the laws of the US. When first told she could not leave with the kids she had a meltdown right there in the court. That was when she was told to surrender her passport as a condition of visitation. All the good that did. For $5000 her ........aturdney dooped the system and actually encouraged her to flee. He knew the Japanese system and money talked VERY loud. I remain hopeful that this will change things but I'm only fooling myself.

Posted in: Japan expected to ratify Hague Convention on child abduction See in context

What really needs to happen is that countries like the US, UK, Aus etc make it illegal for a Japanese woman to leave the country with her child unless the non-Japanese spouse is present at the airport and freely gives permission. End of all international kidnappings...

Best idea I've seen. Having them surrender the passport is ineffective......any $2 lawyer can trick the courts into handing it back to them for "obtaining" new ID.....that's what happened in my case.

A business person had to conform to base standards and some say pay a commission (bribe) to the base people. It is the same with the housing office and off base housing. A "inspection" has to be done and I have heard the same no bribe no certification.

I heard it was the "local hires" that practiced this.

It is so much easier to issue a blanket order instead of taking care of the problem.

Your post was good until I came upon this little gem. The way you swing back and forth is.........confusing but I respect your views. You never answered an earlier question. Blanket statements are rampant on this matter but instead of seeing that the problem lies with the VERY few too many throw us all in the rotten apple pile.

The bars do not want to give them permission

And you know this how? Did you poll them? Really, I would like to know how you know this. If it is a fact then my apologies but I seriously doubt that ALL bars would not allow access.

I will call the police myself and claim they were harassing the bar and customers.

Yuri: Please correct me if I'm wrong but you would make this claim if it weren't the case? They are VERY aware of this and only enter a bar that has given prior permission or if a situation were in progress. The bars that Americans frequent welcome it up here. They come in, observe and move on.

I fully understand the Okinawans plight and agree for the most part. I was refering to the usual all knowing statements made in previous posts and then saying that you might not know everything.

"Nothing clogs up vision like thinking you know all about it" Amen to that. Besides I will debate with a qualified Okinawan any day of the week.

TheDevilsAssistant,

Is it that hard to see things from the Okinawan perspective?

No, it isn't.

If you have the courage to admit that you might not know all there is to know about it.

Nothing clogs up vision like thinking you know all about it.

So by the above statement you are contradicting yourself. You make some very valid points at times but you tend to use a lot of blanket statements as well.
