Posted in: Two more U.S. servicemen arrested in separate incidents See in context

Remember for every incident off base there is 10 or so on base.

Please provide credible sources. I am not trying to be rude but 'my guy' is not a credible source. Such an obvious bias here. Next guy will be arrested for pickin' his nose.

My personal reason is the distraction from seeing the movie. Doesn't matter it the titles are on the bottom, left or right of the screen. It always manages to block a good scene.

How about we all stop posting to this nonsense? Not downplaying this incedent but there are those who will wring this one dry, wet it and wring it some more. Enough already.

It's a grown man, most likely well built

Rather assuming of you..........and irrelevant. All is said and done and his career is over. Drunk and foolishly broke the rules. Your post made very little sense.

@zichi:

Yes my good man, the day IS about those who served and those who still do. I salute you on this. Walk or run with vets, place flags on graves. To each his own. I respect ANYONE who takes the time to honor those who served. I'm sure that past, present and future presidents would personally speak to the families of those who gave their lives IF it were possible. Lets not spoil this day of reflection with political agendas.

@zichi: Bush served. I won't downplay in what capacity because all who served deserve recognition. Agree that a military background is not relevant to becoming an elected official.

“the heroes over the generations who have served this country of ours with distinction.”

This is what the day is all about. All the other stuff is just article fluff. As a veteran I am reflecting today on those who still serve and those before me........my father. I miss him.

For all those who want the military out of Okinawa, do you think the economy there would survive? The military makes up a great portion of income for business there.

Let this one go. Its been done to death on this site.

When someone does something bad people in Japan people always say ''he/she had a mental problem''. I am suspicious of the label ''Mental problem'' used as a cliche to pretend bad people simply don't exist in Japan

@flipper2: Nice point but that IS the point. Very little if ANYTHING is done to evaluate who is mental or who is just plain bad. Hoping it will go away never works. Telling someone ganbatte rarely works. Leaving them to fend for themselves? The above article was the end result in this case. In my personal experiences a few that I have reached out to found it 'strange' that I offered to help as if I had an alterior motive. I wish more would just learn to open up and let their thoughts be heard.

Sad that half of the girls I talked to still insist their lover boy Sailor won't cheat around or act like goons like those two sailors. I don't see why the women still mess with those guys. Plus those girls were skippy clothing to the nightclubs, you just asking for trouble from drunk hyper young military boys who probably saw their first half clothed Japanese girl and went bonkers. They shouldn't even be in Okinawa there are enough bases in Japan, most just wanna get deployed for a good time and play around anyway

. So your personal obsevations are indicitave of the whole? They will face justice and rightfully so. Sad that there are fools like these two. If only I could invent that all seeing eye.........

I believe I am regular Japanese and after some study, I concluded that those equipments are fast, safe, quiet and very useful. I feel that Japanese media is not trying to be most precise for safety of the equipments.

Good on you sir. Took the time to educate himself on this and not follow the herd. Agree with your second post that Okinawa should not shoulder the majority of the bases.

I'm stating the obvious when I say some of us only want to know where the outrage is on this one and why it took so long for it to come out. The guy is scum for what he did just as anyone from anywhere is that is CONFIRMED and proven to commit such crimes.

Posted in: Police officer busted for allegedly molesting 15-yr-old girl See in context

“This was behavior unbecoming of a police officer. We would like to take steps to ensure that this kind of incident does not occur again.”

And they will do this how? Curfews? Do ALL cops now need to be put on lockdown and bed checks done nightly? Will you suggest that the commanding officer be held accountable? Are ALL cops now bad apples because of these fools? I could go on forever but those of us who follow this and the other 'alleged' crimes down south know the drill. The rug must be pretty lumpy now with all the crap swept under it. Guess they need to start diggin' holes.............

Total idiot. Never lived in Okinawa or witnessed or understand all the stupidness or disrespect shown. I will tell you first hand. Not from a outsider. Born and raised in Okinawa, yet I am a American. The military does not enforce and and loose ends on controlling their military. Liberty restrictions? who will know if there is no one there to know exactly where their troops are. They say you have to be on base? Who is to know you didn't jump the fence or just stay out until 6:00a.m. which is has been done

Show me your "all seeing" eye or device and I will invest in it. Another forced perspective rant with no real truths.

voiceofokinawa,

never said or thought that there is anything wrong with operating under a SOFA. As you pointed out it is a necessary thing when operating where laws are not........shall we say equitable. Also remember that ALL things come to an end and the bases in Okinawa are no exception.

Posted in: Okinawan governor to visit Washington See in context

voiceofokinawa,

Yes, this did happen in the past but it is no longer the case. Even if they had left and enough info was known they would be returned for an investigation. For the record I like most people do not in any way back up these guys if in fact it did happen. Face it, there have been times where people were wrongly accused and we know the drill in Japan......hold 'em for 23 days and then we'll get a judge to extend it for another 23. That my friend is but one of the many reasons behind the SOFA. I am not in any way connected to law enforcement but NOBODY who posts here is 'in the know' of all the details. At least wait for the details to come out from a credible source. If they are guilty the laws of Japan and the US will do what they do.

If this incident would not have happened and the crime rate dropped to absolute zero some on this post would STILL find some reason to whine and complain. Alleged perps are in Japanese custody. US military is in full cooperation with Japanese police. They will get all that is coming to them if found guilty. I guess some of you want their heads on a platter. No one that posts here is all knowing or have the answers to please everyone but some of you truly take the cake.

Posted in: U.S. military to impose curfew in Japan after alleged rape See in context

So lets take this from the top. There is a culture of sexual assault in the US military ranks that far surpasses the rate in Japan. In other words the weapons bearing US military has a sexual assault rate of 130 times that of the general population of Japan

This is by far one of the worst posts yet by you. Where do you get this fantasy drivel from? And when you refer to "your guy" I'm sure he served honorably but most of what you state is from his prospective and his experiences. As stated you paint a VERY broad picture that does in no way apply to everyone in uniform......you both dishonor those who would not in any way condone what has happened.

Yeah, America doesn't have any problems at home and has certainly never interfered in the affairs of other nations...

It was NEVER implied by myself or the other poster that America doesn't have problems and lord knows America sticks it's nose where it shouldn't. It was a tragic event but trying to change the gun laws and "blending" is absurd. Your response was a bit simple.

Posted in: Louisiana 'Freeze' shooting tragedy remembered 20 years on See in context

As sad as this case is, it's really not the place of Japanese to demand changes to constitutional rights in the US. There are plenty of problems in Japan that they would be better off focusing on, and American laws are frankly none of their business

I remember this case very well. I totally agree with the above quote because other than remembering this young man the rest of the article was nonsense. Clean your own backyard before worrying about someone else's.

Well it would seem that even if he were singing Japanese standards some of the mindless drones would still object. I am an accomplished musician but I would personally not have done it. It was nothing more than sontaneous entertainment to pass the moment. Some posters act as if they knew the guy personally with their one sided comments. This situation highlights one of many things Japanese need to lighten up on.

Another child lost, wake up Japan! You need to come up with a better plan! Bowing your head and showing deep sorrow Won’t bring this child back tomorrow To ask for help there is no shame Stop the nonsense! Stop the blame! Children do what children do Raise ‘em right keep them in school Sometimes you want them out of sight But beating them is just not right Show them love and understand Sometimes you need a helping hand I know not what your problems are But this situation went too far It’s not a secret it’s not even rare Look at your children….show them you care.

Not downplaying the death of this woman or anyone else but this is getting so repettitive in the news that I am growing numb to it. It really is a shame that this happens anywhere but as stated more times than I can count Japan needs to stop this nonsense of it always being the drivers fault. Maybe, just maybe people will stop if they knew the situation would be investigated instead of the automatic "it's your fault" attitude.
