Posted in: Japan eyes revamping tax-free shopping rule to stem illicit resales See in context

In Japan, travelers are exempted from paying the consumption tax when purchasing goods totaling 5,000 yen or more as long as they intend to use the items in their home countries.

There is a minimum limit of 5000 yen for this exemption. Supposed to be driving a minimum cap of spending by visitors.

No Maximum limit on amount of purchase and/or no restrictions on number of expensive products purchased for tax free exempt?

People are clever to seek loop holes and benefit from that.

"I have instructed my office to make sure similar errors like this don't happen in the future," Kishida told reporters.

Should rather instruct not to cook up the expenses which could be the main cause of errors. Show the right data.

If Kishida is talking only about "Japanese" Auto Industry, there is "no push" for Carbon Neutral/De-carbonization. None here understood or not even ready to understand.

Instead of relying on Dollar as a known common currency, accept regional currencies with calculated risk.

"We will build the foundation and footholds to secure vaccine supply domestically," industry minister Yasutoshi Nishimura told reporters.

Keep dreaming...

By the time when you really need to supply vaccines, a decision would be rolled out stating the cost to import vaccine is much lower and faster than producing the required amount domestically.

Try to understand what happened to the mask supply during early pandemic...forget vaccines.

Posted in: Digital minister aims to drag Japan out of analog doldrums See in context

And then there are classes conducted for how to use "SMART" Phones.

My understanding, I might be wrong, but things will work in Japan only if there is a printed manual on "how to".

I remember the store clerk going page after page to complete the process of Duty Free - I could have finished a cup of hot coffee while patiently waiting her to finish reading and following the manual.

If these things are made digital/smart, I guess they might be super scared to press "next" button for every step they do.

Posted in: Ground Self-Defense Force issues rare apology over sexual harassment case See in context

Gonoi said in a statement that she filed a case with the ministry, but the investigation was not properly conducted and local prosecutors dropped the case in May.

These prosecutors were inefficient or having a blind eye - should be named and charged for professional negligence?????

I believe an investigation will conducted on this and dropped.

Gonoi submitted a petition earlier this month to the Defense Ministry signed by more than 100,000 people seeking a reinvestigation of her case by a third party.

Only then it is worth for Defense Ministry to approve for (proper) investigation?
