Japan's Fukushima will be under a lot more scrutiny now (from overseas) than before. I'd like to think Japan will rise to the occasion and get their stuff sorted, but based on events so far it's more likely the pressure to save face will be too much for them.

Despite the leaks local council is still encouraging people to swim at the local beaches. http://evacuatefukushimanow.wordpress.com/2013/07/30/%E7%A6%8F%E5%B3%B6%E3%83%BB%E3%81%84%E3%82%8F%E3%81%8D%E5%B8%82-swimming-in-fukushima/

What is with Tokyo's Olympic obsession???

It's time for them to pull their heads out out their R-z and get on with reality.

Most fishing in the area is already banned

The non-radioactive fish are the ones that got away.

It's hard to comment without knowing all the details, but if the girl went of her own volition she needs to know that she must be responsible for her own decisions.

Coddling her with "it's not your fault" is irresponsible.

Posted in: Constitutional watchdog hints it won't block Abe on military changes See in context

Japan already has the right to defend itself, so it doesn't need to change the constitution. The real problem here is that Japan wants the freedom to attack other countries whenever they see fit.

Do we really want to see another war?

Posted in: Australia's Domino's Pizza bites into Japan market See in context

Japanese pizzas are definitely......'unique' <- Note the use of a politically correct word in place of a more accurate one. If you want a good pizza you're better off making it yourself or just try the non-franchise pizza shops.

Posted in: Australian PM Rudd calls national election for Sept 7 See in context

@Tamarama True, but that is why I said take a look at the track record. If we consider how quickly labor got Aus into debt, there's no good reason to vote them in.

Posted in: Australian PM Rudd calls national election for Sept 7 See in context

Don't like Abbott and hate Rudd, so what to do??? Look at the track record. Look at the spending. Look at the promises. Then look at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuzsOdasn24

I can't with any conscience vote for Kevin Rudd.

Posted in: Abe says LDP election victory will bring stability See in context

People seem to forget that during the Fukushima crisis the LDP seemed more interested in attacking their opposition than in helping deal with the Fukushima crisis. I have never seen anything more disgusting and I will never forget it, you shouldn't either.

Who is actually worried about the stockpile of Japanese plutonium and nuclear proliferation?

With Abe in control who wouldn't be worried about the stockpile of Japanese plutonium and nuclear proliferation?

Posted in: As Abe weighs labor reform, IBM emerges as test case for firing workers See in context

A common misconception in Japan- time spent at work equals time spent working. I liken most workers in Japan to Government workers. I'll grant them they work long hours, but if they were productive they wouldn't need to work ridiculous hours.

If I said that I was gonna kill a whole bunch of people, what do you think would happen? We've all been too lenient on North Korea. Idle threats or not they should be punished (sanctions don't count as they are obviously not working).

Posted in: Gov't regulators to investigate Fukushima nuclear crisis See in context

The thing is I can't really bring myself to believe anything the government comes up with. They've been towing TEPCOs line the whole time, so what is gonna change now? I'd prefer an independent assessment made by an international body or even better- two separate investigations, one by the government regulators and one by an international body. Then compare the two.
